Of every hundred Enfield households in 2021, about 29 lived in a terraced house, 25 in a semi and 7 or 8 in a detached house. The other 39 lived in flats, most of them in purpose-built blocks (30.4% of all households); only 6.5% lived in a converted or shared house.

The wards differ more than the borough figures suggest. In Highfield 53.4% of households live in terraced houses and only 16.7% in flats. In Edmonton Green 58.9% live in flats. A terraced street in Highfield and a block in Edmonton Green usually give quite different carpet lists, with a flight and a landing in most houses and none in a flat on one floor.

Two example homes show how the rooms add up. A two-bedroom flat in a purpose-built block is often two bedrooms, a living room and a hallway: two at £36, one at £43 and one at £22. A three-bedroom semi adds a third bedroom, a flight of stairs at £41 and a landing at £9. If the front and back rooms downstairs have been knocked through, the through lounge is £61 in place of the living room.

The carpet visit in an Enfield house

Before the cleaner arrives, pick up shoes, toys, laundry and plant pots, and empty the space under the beds. Say on the call which marks bother you most and what caused them, if you know, and keep pets out of the rooms being cleaned until the carpets are dry.

Every carpet on the booking is vacuumed first to lift the grit out of the pile. Marks and walking lanes are treated, and then the carpet is cleaned by hot water extraction: hot water and a cleaning solution are pushed into the pile and drawn straight back out, taking the loosened dirt with them. On a house job the stairs and landing are done last, working down from the top.

Rugs are cleaned where they lie, on the floor they cover, and are never collected. Each rug is priced by its size. The rest of the furniture stays in place too; clear away small things from the floor and the cleaner works around the beds, wardrobes and sofa.

Parking and access around Enfield

Two parts of the borough have camera-enforced no-motor-vehicle restrictions: the Bowes Primary Area and the Fox Lane Area quieter neighbourhoods, where eligible residents hold permit exemptions. Landlords have had two new schemes to deal with: an additional licence for shared homes across the whole borough from 1 September 2025, and a selective licence in 17 wards from 1 September 2026.
