In Chapel End ward, in Walthamstow, 51.0% of households live in terraced houses, the highest share of any ward in Waltham Forest. Carpet cleaning here costs £36 a bedroom and £41 a flight.
On the day: the carpet clean step by step
Pick up anything small from the floors before the cleaner comes (shoes, laundry, the boxes under the bed) and keep pets in another room. Beds, wardrobes and sofas can stay where they are; the cleaner works around them. Point out the marks you care about and, if you know, what made them.
Each carpet is vacuumed first to bring the grit up out of the pile. Spots and the worn lanes from the door are treated, and then the cleaner goes over the room by hot water extraction, which pushes hot water and a cleaning solution into the carpet and draws it straight back out with the dirt. In a terrace the rooms come first and the stairs last, working from the top step down so nobody treads on a damp flight.
Rugs are cleaned where they lie, on your own floor, and are never collected. A rug up to 3 square metres is £35 and a larger one £51.
Drying usually takes a few hours and depends on ventilation. Open the windows where it is safe, keep the doors between rooms open and, on a cold day, leave the heating on low. Walk on a damp carpet only in clean socks, and wait until it is dry before furniture goes back on it. Keep the water and electricity on throughout. The London carpet cleaning page explains which stains usually lift.
Carpet prices across Waltham Forest
Bedrooms are £36 each and a living room £43; a through lounge, two rooms opened into one, is £61. Stairs cost £41 a flight, a hallway £22 and a landing £9. The total is the sum of the rooms, and one-off work starts at £67. Mattresses, sofas and the rest are on the price list.
Tenants moving out pay less for carpets added to an end of tenancy clean in Waltham Forest: £29 a bedroom and £36 the living room, against £36 and £43 booked on their own. The method is the same either way; the move-out add-on is cheaper because the team is already in the home.
If there is no free parking on the street, we charge the day’s parking cost, never above £40.

Terraced streets and Victorian cottages in Walthamstow
Across nine Walthamstow wards, 35.9% of households live in terraced houses and 49.1% in flats, but the mix swings by ward: High Street ward is 64.7% flats and Hoe Street 61.2%, while Chapel End is half terraces. A terrace brings a flight of stairs and a landing to the carpet list, on top of the bedrooms and the living room.
Walthamstow Village was made a conservation area in 1967 and has an Article 4 direction. The council’s appraisal describes brown, plum, red and yellow stock brickwork and Victorian cottages along Church Path. It is one of 15 local conservation areas, with Walthamstow St James, Leucha Road, Leytonstone, Lloyd Park and Chingford Green among the others, and Article 4 directions apply in most of them. Those rules control changes to the outside of a house; cleaning the carpets inside needs no permission.
Elsewhere in the borough the homes change: Valley ward is only 25.1% flats, and in Endlebury just 13.3% of households live in terraces.
Parking and road layouts for a carpet visit
Controlled hours vary by zone. The council’s 2026 zone map lists operating periods from Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm up to Monday to Sunday 7.30am to 10.30pm. For a single day’s work, the council’s parking FAQ says a trader can use a business visitor permit or a resident visitor permit supplied by the householder. The resident trader permit, at £80 for 7 days or £230 for 28 days in one zone, is meant for jobs that last from 7 to 28 days, so it is no use for a carpet clean.
Some streets are closed to through traffic. The borough’s built schemes include Walthamstow Village, the Blackhorse Village scheme, which stops non-local traffic driving through, and a scheme around Hoe Street and Wood Street that cuts traffic on residential roads. The way to your door may differ from the through route, so give us the full address and we plan the drive in.

Waltham Forest carpet cleaning questions
Can you clean a rug on a wooden floor?
Yes. Rugs are cleaned where they lie, wood or laminate underneath included, and never taken away. Let the rug dry face up, then lift a corner for an hour once the top is dry so the floor below can air.
When can the furniture go back?
Once the carpet is dry to the touch, usually a few hours later depending on ventilation. If something has to go back sooner, put foil or a plastic lid under each wooden or metal leg.
Does the cleaner need a parking permit?
In a controlled zone, a resident visitor permit or a business visitor permit bought by the hour covers a one-day job. Let us know your zone on the call and we work out which suits.
Do you clean the stairs in a maisonette?
Yes. Any carpeted stair inside your own front door is priced as a flight at £41, with £9 for a landing at the top.
Is hot water extraction the same as steam cleaning?
People often call it that, but the carpet is cleaned with hot water and a solution that the machine draws straight back out, and no steam is involved.
