Noel Park, in Wood Green, is a planned estate of about 2,000 terraced houses built between about 1881 and 1913. Carpet cleaning across Haringey is priced by the room, from £36 for a bedroom.
The method is hot water extraction for every carpet, and rugs are cleaned where they lie, on your own floor. Drying usually takes a few hours and depends on how well the room is ventilated.
Haringey carpet prices, room by room
Each carpeted space has its own line. A bedroom is £36, a living room £43 and a through lounge, where two rooms have been opened into one, £61. A flight of stairs is £41, a hallway £22 and a landing £9. Rugs are £35 up to 3 square metres and £51 above that size.
Add the lines together for the total. One-off work starts at £67, so a single small room on its own is charged at that figure. Sofa and mattress prices are on the price list with everything else. If the street has no free parking, we add the cost of parking on the day, capped at £40.

Haringey homes, floor by floor
Converted houses are a big part of the borough. At the 2021 Census 22.8% of Haringey households lived in a flat inside a converted or shared house, the fourth highest share of London’s 33 local authorities, and in Crouch End ward the figure was 34.1%. When a conversion flat has its own stair inside the front door, that flight is priced like any other at £41. The common stair the whole building uses belongs to the freeholder, so we clean it only when they have agreed.
Muswell Hill has a larger share of houses than the borough as a whole. The council’s appraisal calls it an essentially Edwardian suburb, with most of its streets laid out between 1896 and 1913, starting with Princes Avenue and Queens Avenue. Across the Muswell Hill and Fortis Green wards 25.0% of households live in terraced houses and 17.3% in semis, and Fortis Green on its own has 28.7% terraced and 20.4% semi-detached.
Noel Park was built by the Artizans, Labourers and General Dwellings Company for skilled workers’ families. It became a conservation area in 1982, and an Article 4 direction of 18 February 1983 controls changes to the front elevations, roofs and front boundaries. None of that reaches indoors. Inside, a terraced house brings its stairs and landing onto the carpet list along with the bedrooms.
The same number of bedrooms can cost quite different amounts. A two-bedroom flat in a Crouch End conversion is usually two bedrooms, a living room and a hallway: two at £36, one at £43 and one at £22. A two-bedroom terrace in Noel Park has the same rooms and adds a flight at £41 and a landing at £9. A house on three floors adds a second flight and a second landing.
Room by room on the day
Bedrooms come first. Clear shoes, bags and anything stored under the bed, and leave the wardrobe and bed where they are; the cleaner works around heavy furniture. Each carpet is vacuumed, marks and the worn lanes by the door are treated, and then the carpet is cleaned by hot water extraction.
In the living room the dirt collects along the path from the door to the sofa. A rug in the room is cleaned where it lies and is never collected or taken away; it is priced by size, on top of the room’s carpet if the floor under it is carpeted too.
The hallway takes the grit from outside. In a house the stairs and landing are left until last and done from the top step down, so nobody has to walk on a damp flight to reach the rest of the house.
When the cleaner leaves, open a window in each room and keep the internal doors open. Drying usually takes a few hours and depends on ventilation; a cold day with the windows shut takes longest. The London carpet cleaning page goes into stains and drying in more detail.
Sofas, mattresses and moving-out carpets
Upholstery can go on the same visit: a two-seat sofa is £57, an armchair £33 and a mattress £35. Tenants leaving a rented home pay less for carpets added to an end of tenancy clean in Haringey, at £29 a bedroom and £36 the living room.
Booking and parking for a carpet visit
Send the form with your postcode and a list of the carpeted rooms, stairs included, or ring 020 3734 1438. We ring back to agree the day and confirm the total against the home. A 50% deposit secures the date and the balance is due once the carpets are done. Keep the water and electricity on for the visit.
A carpet clean is a shorter visit than a move-out, and several Haringey zones are controlled for only two hours a day. Crouch End A runs Monday to Friday from 10am to 12 noon and Crouch End B from 2pm to 4pm, both at £4.10 an hour on street. The Muswell Hill zone is controlled every day, Sundays included, from 11am to 1pm.

Carpet cleaning in Haringey: common questions
Do rugs go away to be cleaned?
Never. Rugs are cleaned where they lie, in your home, at £35 up to 3 square metres and £51 for anything larger.
Can you clean the shared stairs in a converted house?
Yes, once the freeholder or managing agent has agreed, since the common stair belongs to the building. Each flight is £41 and each landing £9.
How soon can I walk on the carpet?
Straight away in clean socks, though it is best to wait until it is dry before outdoor shoes go back on it. Drying usually takes a few hours and depends on ventilation, so an open window shortens it.
Will the council take away an old carpet?
Haringey’s bulky item collection takes carpet only if it is cut down and tied in a bag under 80 litres. The charge is £20 for up to four items.
Do I need to move the furniture?
Only the small things. Beds, wardrobes and sofas stay put and the carpet around them is cleaned; mention anything unusually heavy when we ring back.
Ring 020 3734 1438 and tell us which rooms and stairs are carpeted.
