A woman holding a pot of basil in a garden flat kitchen with the doors open

Three Crouch End households in four live in flats (74.5% at the 2021 Census), many of them in converted houses. A weekly cleaner for one of those flats costs £23 an hour.

A cleaner’s visit to a Crouch End flat, start to finish

In a converted house the flat’s own front door is often on a shared landing, so tell us how the cleaner gets in: a key with a neighbour, a key safe or you at home for the first visit. Once inside, the cleaner starts in the kitchen. Worktops are cleared and wiped, the hob and splashback degreased, the sink and taps cleaned and dried, and the cupboard fronts and appliance doors wiped where hands touch them. The floor is mopped last.

The bathroom comes next: toilet, basin and bath or shower, the mirror and the tiles within reach. Thames Water’s Crouch End & Gospel Oak supply zone measured 248 to 268 mg/l of calcium carbonate in 2025, with a mean of 259, inside the range Thames Water calls hard. Some streets here may draw from a neighbouring zone, but the chalky film on taps and shower glass is much the same, and the cleaner gives the fittings a few extra minutes every week.

Bedrooms and the living room follow, with surfaces dusted, carpets hoovered and hard floors mopped, and beds made with fresh linen if you leave it out. Last come the hallway and the bins. In a split-level or top-floor conversion the stairs inside the flat are hoovered too, which is why a maisonette can need more than the 3-hour minimum.

A deep clean goes through the same rooms with two cleaners and much more time: inside the emptied kitchen cupboards, the grout, door tops and frames, radiators and the floor behind anything that moves. The deep cleaning page has the full scope; domestic cleaning explains weekly and fortnightly rotas.

Prices for a clean in N8

Weekly visits cost £23 an hour and fortnightly visits £24; either way a visit lasts at least 3 hours. Two cleaners on a deep clean are £26 each per hour, with £30 added once for equipment and detergents, so the smallest deep clean comes to £186. Other one-off work starts at £67.

Moving out of a let is a fixed price by size, £207 for a one-bedroom flat and £243 for two bedrooms, booked through end of tenancy cleaning in Haringey. If the clerk or the agent marks anything we cleaned, tell us inside 48 hours and we put it right at no cost to you. Carpets (£43 for a living room) and ovens (£77 for a single) are on the carpet and oven pages for the borough. Everything else is on the price list. For a one-off clean on a street with no free space, parking is added at the day’s cost, up to £40.

The Broadway, the conservation area and parking

Haringey made Crouch End a conservation area on 25 October 1974. The council’s appraisal describes a town centre of two and three storey late Victorian and early Edwardian parades, shops on the ground floor with homes or offices above, and the Clock Tower of 1895 at the northern end of the Broadway as its landmark, near the former Hornsey Town Hall and Hornsey Central Library. The streets around the Broadway are mostly housing of the late 19th and early 20th century. Cleaning needs no permission, but if an original floor or fireplace should be treated in a particular way, say so on the call.

Controlled parking is short here. Crouch End A is controlled from 10am to noon and Crouch End B from 2pm to 4pm, both on weekdays only and both at £4.10 an hour on street. The zones next door keep other hours: Hornsey North runs 8am to 6.30pm on weekdays at £2.60, and Stroud Green noon to 2pm. Without a car, the cleaner can take the 41, 91, W5 or W7 bus to the Broadway, or a train to Hornsey (Great Northern, zone 3) or Crouch Hill on the Suffragette Overground line.

Crouch End ward is outside Haringey’s selective licensing area, so a flat let to one household needs no selective licence. Shared houses still fall under mandatory licensing or the borough’s additional scheme, which runs to 16 June 2029.

Crouch End and its neighbours in Haringey

Crouch End belongs to Haringey, whose moving-out, carpet and oven pages are listed below. Stationers Park, on the site of the old Stationers’ Company’s School, lies between Crouch End, Stroud Green and Harringay. Muswell Hill, next door, has a page of its own.

You can ring at any hour, and we ring back between 8am and 7pm, any day of the week, to agree the date and confirm the price against the flat. Questions about cleaning in Crouch End

Do you clean the flats above the shops on the Broadway?

Yes. A flat above a parade is priced like any other flat, by the hour for a regular or deep clean and by the number of bedrooms for a move-out.

Can the cleaner come at the weekend?

Yes, we clean seven days a week from 8am to 7pm. Crouch End A and B are controlled on weekdays only, so a Saturday or Sunday visit avoids the permit question on most streets. Check the signs on yours, as some roads keep different hours.

What does a cleaner with a car need on a weekday?

Haringey residents in a controlled zone can buy a virtual visitor permit by the hour, and here the controlled period is only two hours. The permit works in resident, permit-holder and shared-use bays and never in a bay marked pay-by-phone only.

Does my Crouch End flat need a selective licence?

A flat let to one household does not, because Crouch End ward is outside the 14 selective licensing wards. A shared house may still need a mandatory or additional HMO licence from the council.

Do you cover Hornsey and Stroud Green as well?

Yes. We clean across London, so N8, N4 and N6 are all covered, and the form prices your exact postcode.

Send the postcode and the size of the flat, and we will ring back with a day and the price.
