Ovens in the City of London are almost all in flats, because 97.9% of its households live in one. Oven cleaning here starts at £77 for a single oven, cleaned by hand in the kitchen.

A double is £110 and a 90cm range £143. The price is set by the oven, whatever the building, and the oven can be used again the same evening.

City homes and what an oven booking needs

HomeShare of City households, 2021Single ovenTell us when you book
Flat in a purpose-built block, including the Barbican, Golden Lane, Mansell Street and Middlesex Street estates87.0%£77The estate or block, the entrance and the floor

Shares are from the 2021 Census (Nomis table TS044) for about 4,914 households. The oven price is the same in every row. The last column is what gets the cleaner to the kitchen on time.

The Barbican was listed as a single building at Grade II in 2001 and Golden Lane’s buildings were listed individually in 1997. An oven clean deals with the appliance alone, so it touches nothing the listing protects: no fixtures come out and no surface is altered.

Charging zones, red routes and parking

The Corporation says the Square Mile lies inside three charging zones: the Congestion Charge zone, the Ultra Low Emission Zone and the Low Emission Zone. Since every City address is inside the Congestion Charge zone, the daily charge is part of the oven price here.

Bishopsgate, Gracechurch Street, Upper and Lower Thames Street, Farringdon Street, New Bridge Street, Mansell Street, the Minories and Victoria Embankment are TfL red routes, enforced by TfL. The cleaner parks in a City payment bay instead, paying through RingGo at £5.00 to £10.00 an hour depending on fuel and registration year, with a four hour maximum stay. On yellow lines without kerb markings a vehicle may load for up to 40 minutes, long enough to carry the equipment in before moving to a bay.

The City’s parking controls run 7am to 7pm on weekdays and 7am to 11am on Saturdays, and the payment bays cost nothing on Sundays and bank holidays.

The oven clean in your kitchen

The cleaner starts by lifting out everything removable: racks, trays and the shelf supports on the side walls. Those go into a soak in your kitchen while the cavity is cleaned by hand, from the roof down to the floor, with the back panel, the door glass and the rubber seals done the same way. If the door is made to come apart, its inner glass is taken out and the panes are cleaned on both faces; doors that do not come apart keep their inner glass in place.

Once the parts have soaked they are cleaned, rinsed and refitted. The oven is ready to cook with the same evening, and opening a window for a while clears any smell. The water and electricity need to stay on while the cleaner works.

A hob or extractor can go on the same visit: £23 for a ceramic hob, £28 for gas, £28 for an extractor, £48 for a range hob or hood. For a flat between lets, an oven booked with an end of tenancy clean is £31, or £62 for a double or 90cm range.

Questions about oven cleaning in the City of London

Can you clean the oven on a Sunday?

Yes. Sunday is a normal working day for us, 8am to 7pm. The City’s payment bays cost nothing on Sundays and bank holidays, so a Sunday visit usually has no parking line at all.

My flat’s windows barely open. Will the smell linger?

Open whatever does open for a while after the clean and run the kitchen extractor. Any smell from the cleaning clears with a little moving air.

Can I book the hob on its own?

Yes. A ceramic hob is £23 and a gas hob £28, but one-off work starts at £67, so a hob booked alone is charged at that minimum. Adding the oven or the extractor makes better use of the visit.

Can the oven be cleaned before I move into a Barbican flat?

Yes. An empty kitchen is the easiest kind to work in. Tell us the block and the entrance when you book so the cleaner can find the way in from the podium.

Is the extractor filter cleaned too?

When the extractor is booked, at £28, the hood and its filter are degreased on the same visit as the oven.

Ring 020 3734 1438 and tell us the block and the oven.
