About half of Camden lies inside its 40 conservation areas, and 26.2% of households live in flats made from converted or shared houses. Carpet cleaning here starts at £36 a bedroom.
The method is hot water extraction: hot water is worked into the pile and drawn back out with the dirt it has lifted. Each room has its own price, and so do the stairs, the landing and the hallway, so the bill follows the carpet you actually have.
Carpet cleaning prices in Camden
A bedroom is £36 and a living room £43. A through lounge, where two reception rooms have been opened into one, is £61. A flight of stairs is £41, a hallway £22 and a landing £9. One-off work starts at £67, and the London price list sets every service side by side.
If the street has no free parking, we add what parking costs on the day, up to £40 at most.

Stairs and landings: converted houses against purpose-built blocks
Most Camden flats are in purpose-built blocks (56.2% of households), where a flat is usually a run of rooms and a hall on one floor. The carpet bill there is the rooms plus the hallway. A flat made from a converted house varies more. It may have its own flight up from a street door, a landing between rooms on two levels or a long hall running the depth of the old house, and each of those is a separate line: £41 a flight and £9 a landing, on top of the rooms. Tell us on the form how many flights are inside your own front door, and whether any stair beyond it belongs to the whole building.
Where Camden’s converted flats are
The Census shows the converted share running well above the borough figure in three districts. In West Hampstead and Fortune Green wards 38.2% of households live in flats in converted or shared houses, in the two Kentish Town wards 36.0% and in Hampstead Town and Frognal 34.9%, against 26.2% for Camden as a whole. Another 2.4% of households live in flats above or within commercial buildings and 1.8% in other converted buildings. Houses are uncommon everywhere: 8.1% of Camden households live in a terrace, 3.6% in a semi and 1.7% in a detached home.
Much of this housing is old and protected. The Camden Town Conservation Area, which takes in the streets around the Underground station, dates from 1 November 1986. Hampstead’s conservation area was designated on 1 February 1968 and Redington Frognal’s on 1 February 1988. Kentish Town followed on 1 November 1991, West End Green in West Hampstead on 1 March 1993 and West Kentish Town on 20 September 2005.
The clean, room by room
Before the cleaner arrives
Clear the floor of shoes, boxes and anything fragile, and mention any heavy furniture on the call.
Bedrooms and living room
The cleaner works each room from the far wall back towards the door, so nobody has to cross a wet carpet to get out. A through lounge is treated as one long room.
Hallway, stairs and landing
The hall takes the street dirt, so it usually shows the change most. Stairs are done one flight at a time, treads and risers, with the landing at the top.
Drying
Drying usually takes a few hours and depends on ventilation. Open a window or two and keep outdoor shoes off the carpet until it is dry.
Rugs, sofas and curtains
Rugs are cleaned where they lie, on your own floor, and never taken away. One up to 3 square metres is £35, and a larger rug is £51.
Sofas, armchairs, mattresses and curtains come under upholstery cleaning, from £33 for an armchair and £57 for a two-seat sofa, and they can go on the same booking as the carpets.

Questions about carpet cleaning in Camden
How long do the carpets take to dry?
Usually a few hours. Ventilation decides it, so open the windows if the weather allows and leave the inside doors open.
Can you clean the stairs up to my flat?
Yes, at £41 a flight, with the landing at £9. If the stair is shared with other flats in the house, ask the freeholder or managing agent first, since the decision may be theirs.
Will you take a rug away to clean it?
No. Every rug is cleaned in the room where it lies and stays there.
Do you cover WC1 and WC2 as well as the NW postcodes?
Yes. We clean carpets across the whole borough, from Bloomsbury and Holborn in WC1 and WC2 up through NW1, NW3, NW5 and NW6.
My flat is near the top of Hampstead. Does the hill matter?
Only for the carrying. The old Hampstead parish climbs from about 30 metres in the south-west to 133 metres near Jack Straw’s Castle, so tell us on the call how far the nearest parking is from your door. The Hampstead page has more on the area.
Can I book a single room?
Yes. One-off work starts at £67, so a single bedroom, or a bedroom with the hallway, is booked at that figure. Add the stairs or a second room and the price follows the list.
