Hillside ward, the hill and town centre of Wimbledon, has 66.2 per cent of its households in flats. Oven cleaning in Merton starts at £77 for a single, cleaned by hand in the kitchen.

Merton kitchens, from Wimbledon flats to family houses

The borough as a whole leans the other way. In 2021, 55.6 per cent of Merton households owned their home, flats were 39.6 per cent of homes (28.4 per cent in purpose-built blocks) and most of the rest were terraced or semi-detached houses. Whatever the kitchen, the price follows the oven.

Wimbledon itself is mixed. Across its five wards, 49.1 per cent of households live in flats (31.9 per cent in purpose-built blocks) and the rest mostly in terraced (25.9 per cent), semi-detached (15.4) or detached (9.6) houses.

Owning and renting split by ward. In Hillside, 42.1 per cent of households rent privately. In Wimbledon Village, 66.5 per cent own their home and only 25.5 per cent rent. An owner in the Village can book the oven whenever it needs doing, at £77 for a single. A tenant leaving a Hillside flat can add it to an end of tenancy clean in Merton for £31, the add-on price for a single or single wide. The oven gets the same work in both cases, and the add-on costs less because the cleaners are already on site for the whole home. More about the area is on the Wimbledon page.

Oven cleaning prices in Merton

A single oven costs £77, a double £110, a single wide £114 and a 90cm range £143. Hobs are £23 for ceramic and £28 for gas, a range hob or a range hood £48 and an extractor £28. One-off work starts at £67, so a hob is best booked alongside the oven. Every other price is on the London price list.

When nothing free is available on the street, a bay is added at what it costs that day and never more than £40.

Inside the oven clean

The cleaner lifts out the racks, the trays and the shelf supports and puts them to soak. Then the cavity, the glass and the seals are cleaned by hand, in your kitchen, while the parts soak. The inner door glass is cleaned where the door design lets it come apart. Once the parts are clean and back in place the oven can be used the same evening, and a window open for a while clears any smell.

To get ready, switch the oven off in good time so it is cool, clear the worktop beside it and empty the storage drawer if there is one. The electricity and water stay on throughout.

Shared kitchens in Merton’s licensing wards

Merton’s licensing page lists additional HMO licensing for homes shared by three or four people from more than one household in Colliers Wood, Cricket Green, Figge’s Marsh, Graveney, Lavender Fields, Longthornton and Pollards Hill. In those same seven wards an Article 4 direction means planning permission is needed to turn a family home into a small HMO for three to six people. The council’s licensing page has the detail for landlords.

In a shared house the oven is the one appliance every household uses. A landlord can book it between tenancies, or when one room changes hands, and it is priced like any other oven of its size.

The oven, the hob and the extractor on one visit

A kitchen visit can cover more than the oven. A double oven with a gas hob comes to £110 plus £28; a single with a ceramic hob and an extractor is £117 for all three. Each line is priced on its own, so tell us everything you want done when you send the form and the price we confirm on the phone will include it.

Visitor e-permits for the oven visit

Inside a Merton controlled zone, a resident can book a visitor e-permit for the cleaner’s vehicle. The resident first applies for a free visitor voucher qualifier, and approval can take up to two weeks, though up to 10 e-permits can be bought while waiting. Each e-permit is booked in the resident’s account for a start time and a vehicle registration. The council offers no refunds, so book the permit once we have agreed the day and the arrival time.

Booking an oven clean in Merton

Send the form or ring 020 3734 1438, and tell us if the oven is a single, a double or a range. We ring back to agree the day and confirm the price against your kitchen. A 50% deposit holds the date and the balance is due when the oven is done. The oven cleaning page explains how a single wide differs from a range.

Questions about oven cleaning in Merton

How soon can I use the oven?

The same evening, once the parts are back in. Leave a window open for a while and any smell clears.

Is the inside of the door glass cleaned?

When the door design allows it to come apart, yes. On a sealed door the cleaner cleans the glass faces that can be reached.

Can you clean the hob at the same time?

Yes: £23 for ceramic or £28 for gas. Booked on its own a hob would reach the £67 minimum, so it costs less alongside the oven.

What does a range cooker cost?

A 90cm range is £143. For a range hob or a range hood the price is £48.

Do I need a visitor e-permit for the cleaner?

Only if your street is in a controlled zone. Apply for the visitor qualifier early, because approval can take up to two weeks.

Is a single wide oven priced as a single?

A single wide has its own price, £114. Added to an end of tenancy clean it is £31, the same as a standard single.
