Merton is a borough of houses more than flats: terraces alone are 35.7 per cent of households, and a weekly cleaner for a Merton terrace costs £23 an hour.

Fortnightly visits cost £24 an hour. A regular visit lasts 3 hours at least, which puts the smallest weekly booking at £69. For a one-off deep clean you pay £26 per cleaner-hour plus £30 for the equipment and detergents, and two cleaners for three hours comes to £186. One-off work starts at £67. Moving-out, carpet and oven prices are on the price list. Where a street has no free parking we pass on the parking cost for the day, up to £40.

Merton’s homes, ward by ward

Across the borough 55.6 per cent of households own their home, 29.1 per cent rent privately and 14.2 per cent rent socially. Flats make up 39.6 per cent, semis 19.0 and detached houses 5.7. The average hides big differences between wards. Colliers Wood is 61.3 per cent flats with 41.2 per cent renting privately. Graveney is 48.3 per cent terraced and Pollards Hill 45.8 per cent, though only 19.1 per cent of Pollards Hill households rent privately. Merton Park is 71.4 per cent owner-occupied.

The council lists 29 conservation areas. Seven carry Wimbledon’s name (Broadway, Chase, Hill Road, North, Village, West and Windmill); the others include Cricket Green in Mitcham, Upper Morden, Wandle Valley and John Innes: Merton Park, which has Article 4 directions. Wimbledon has a page of its own, with the Championships parking and the flats on the hill.

A Merton house cleaned room by room

In a terrace the cleaner starts at the front door and works back through the house before going upstairs:

  • Hall and living room: dusting, surfaces, skirting within reach, hoovering and mopping.
  • Kitchen: worktops, hob, splashback, sink and taps, the cupboard and appliance fronts, then the floor.
  • Stairs: hoovered top to bottom, banister wiped.
  • Bathroom and bedrooms: bath or shower, basin, toilet, mirror and floor, then beds made from the linen you leave out and the bedroom floors.

A three-bedroom terrace rarely fits three hours if every room is done every week. A rota works better: the kitchen, bathroom and floors on each visit, and the bedrooms in turn.

The water is hard. Thames Water’s 2025 figures give a mean of 262 mg/l as calcium carbonate in its Merton and Wimbledon zones, 260 in Mitcham and 254 in New Malden. Some SM4 homes are on SES Water instead, and in December 2024 the council warned that a fault at SES Water’s Cheam treatment works was causing low pressure and an intermittent supply in SM4. A cleaner needs running water, so if your supply is off on the day, ring and we will move the visit.

A deep clean goes past the weekly list: inside cupboards and the fridge, skirting boards and door frames, radiators, grout and behind the furniture. The team brings the equipment and detergents.

Moving out, carpets, ovens and licensing

End of tenancy cleaning in Merton is a fixed price by bedrooms, £156 for a studio to £425 for four. If the inventory clerk or letting agent marks something we cleaned, you have 48 hours to tell us and we come back to put it right at no charge.

Landlords should start with the council’s licensing page. As it stands, it lists additional HMO licensing for three or four people in more than one household in Colliers Wood, Cricket Green, Figge’s Marsh, Graveney, Lavender Fields, Longthornton and Pollards Hill wards, and selective licensing for single-household lets in Figge’s Marsh, Graveney, Longthornton and Pollards Hill. The selective designation came into force on 24 September 2023 and ceases on 23 September 2028 unless revoked earlier. In the same seven wards an Article 4 direction means planning permission is needed to turn a home into a small HMO for three to six people. Check the council’s licensing page for the current position before you let.

Carpet cleaning is by hot water extraction, priced by the room (£43 for a living room), with rugs cleaned in place and drying in a few hours, depending on ventilation. Oven cleaning is £77 for a single oven and £110 for a double, cleaned by hand in your kitchen and usable the same evening.

Parking permits and booking in Merton

Merton’s trade permit is a virtual e-permit that lets one vehicle use the designated bays in any CPZ in the borough. It is issued against a covering letter and a contract, planning papers or an invoice for the property, dated within six months, and the council page lists £52.50 for seven days. A resident inside a CPZ can instead book a visitor e-permit for the cleaner’s car, by start time and registration, through their online account.

Book with the form or on 020 3734 1438; ring any time. We phone back between 8am and 7pm, seven days, to agree a date and confirm the price, and a 50% deposit secures it, with the rest due once the work is done. All our cleaners are vetted and trained.

Merton cleaning questions

Can the cleaner park on my visitor e-permits?

Yes, if you live inside a CPZ. You apply once for a free visitor voucher qualifier, which can take up to two weeks to approve (you can buy up to 10 e-permits while you wait), then book each permit for the start time and the car’s registration. Merton does not refund e-permits, so book one only when the date is fixed.

How can I clear furniture before a deep clean?

Since 1 June 2026 every Merton household gets one free bulky waste collection of up to three items a year. Further collections are £39.75 for up to three items and £66 for four to six, booked for weekdays up to 60 days ahead, and upholstered items are collected in a separate stage.

Do you cover Mitcham and Morden as well as Wimbledon?

Yes, the whole borough: SW19, SW20, CR4 and SM4, and the parts of SW17, SM3 and KT3 that Merton shares with its neighbours. Morden (Northern line) and Raynes Park are both in fare zone 4.

My home in SM4 is on SES Water. Does that change anything?

Only on a day the supply is down. The cleaners need running water and you keep it on for the visit, so if SES Water has an outage, ring 020 3734 1438 and we will find another date.

Tell us the postcode and how many bedrooms the house has, and we will ring back with a date.
