Social renting is Southwark’s largest tenure, at 39.7% of households (Census 2021). Oven cleaning in the borough starts at £77 for a single oven, done by hand in your own kitchen.

Who lives in Southwark’s homes

After social renting come owner occupation at 28.9%, private renting at 28.7% and shared ownership at 2.4%. The mix changes sharply from ward to ward. In Peckham ward 57.9% of households rent from a social landlord and 66.6% live in purpose-built flats. Dulwich Village is 68.4% owner-occupied. London Bridge and West Bermondsey is 95.4% flats, 84.4% of them purpose-built, with 38.4% of households renting privately.

The kitchens follow the buildings. Nearly two in three Southwark households live in a purpose-built block. In Bermondsey, many of the small four-storey warehouses around Bermondsey Street became loft-style homes in the 1980s and 1990s, next to areas of mid twentieth century public housing. In Dulwich the large Village houses are mostly single-family homes, and Dulwich Hill has 31.0% of households in converted or shared houses.

Shared houses and licensing

Southwark’s additional licensing covers HMOs of three or more people in two or more households, borough-wide, and its notice says the scheme ceases on 1 March 2027 unless revoked earlier. Selective licensing now covers 19 wards across four designations, including Peckham, Rye Lane, Peckham Rye and Nunhead and Queen’s Road. In a licensed shared house one oven is used by several households, so book a time when the kitchen can be handed over for the visit.

The oven clean in your kitchen

Racks, trays and shelf supports are taken out and left to soak. The cleaner then works on the cavity by hand, top to bottom, and on the door glass and seals. If the oven door is designed to come apart, the inner glass is removed and cleaned on both sides; if it is sealed, the inner glass stays put.

Nothing leaves the kitchen. The soaked parts are cleaned, rinsed and refitted, and the oven is ready to use the same evening. Open a window for a while and any smell from the cleaning clears. Leave the water and electricity on while the cleaner works.

A hob or extractor booked at the same time is cleaned while the racks soak: £23 for a ceramic hob, £28 for gas, £28 for an extractor hood.

On its own or with a move-out clean

Booked on its own, a single oven is £77 and a double £110. Booked with an end of tenancy clean, the same single is £31 and a double or 90cm range £62, done while the team cleans the rest of the home. Private renting reaches 41.2% in Surrey Docks and 41.0% in Borough and Bankside; for a let that is ending, the Southwark end of tenancy page has the move-out prices in full. For an owner, or a tenant staying put, the stand-alone price applies.

Booking and parking in Southwark

Ring 020 3734 1438 or send the form with the postcode and the oven type. We call back to agree the day and check the price against the oven, and a deposit of half secures the booking, with the remainder paid when the oven is done. We are open from 8am to 7pm, seven days.

Parking depends on the zone. Most of Southwark’s paid bays cost £5.70 an hour, and the £8.60 rate applies only in zones C1, C2, D, F, G and GR. Zone G in Bermondsey is controlled seven days a week until 11pm, while in Peckham the West zone PW is controlled only from 9am to 11am and Queens Road QR from 1pm to 3pm on weekdays. Southwark sells no permit for a tradesperson at a private home, so the cleaner uses a shared-use or pay-by-phone bay. SE15 and SE16 also reach into Lewisham, whose rules apply on that side of the boundary.

The London oven cleaning page covers what counts as a range and how the add-on price works.

Questions about oven cleaning in Southwark

What should I clear before the cleaner arrives?

The worktop beside the oven and the floor in front of it, so the racks and trays can come out and soak close by. Take out any dishes or foil you keep in the oven, and switch it off early so it is cold.

Is parking dearer in Bermondsey?

In zone G it is: £8.60 an hour, controlled every day until 11pm. In the South Bermondsey and South East Bermondsey zones bays are £5.70 an hour and the controls run on weekdays only.

Does it matter that my flat is on a council estate?

Only for parking. Southwark’s estate business permit is limited to contractors doing essential work for the council, so the cleaner uses a shared-use or pay-by-phone bay nearby, and the cost is added at what it is on the day within the cap.

My oven has a separate grill compartment on top. Is that a double?

If the top compartment has its own door and its own cavity, it is priced as a double, £110. A single cavity with a grill element in its roof is a single, £77.

How soon after the clean can I cook?

That evening. Leave a window open for a while once the cleaner has gone so any smell from the cleaning clears, then use the oven as normal.
