Homes around Angel
Taking the three wards around the station (St Peter’s & Canalside, Barnsbury and St Mary’s & St James’), 80.5% of households live in flats: 58.6% in purpose-built blocks and 17.1% in converted or shared houses. Terraced houses hold 16.1%, and semis and detached homes barely register at 2.5% and 0.8% (Census 2021).
The terraces have a history. Houses along Islington’s main roads and the streets behind them were built for middle-class residents, and building spread from the 1830s once omnibuses let clerks and artisans live further from work; later, spacious houses gave way to crowded terraces for working-class residents. Islington’s conservation areas around Angel include The Angel, Upper Street (North), Duncan Terrace/Colebrooke Row, Chapel Market/Penton Street and Barnsbury.
Social renting is the largest tenure here at 38.3%, with 32.4% renting privately and 29.1% owning. Camden Passage, just off the high street, adds three market areas (Pierrepoint Arcade, Charlton Place and Camden Passage itself), with the main market days on Wednesday and Saturday.

If the inventory clerk or letting agent marks something we cleaned, tell us within 48 hours and we come back to put it right at no charge. What a regular or deep clean includes
A regular visit works through the kitchen surfaces, sink and hob, then the bathroom, then dusting, hoovering and mopping through the other rooms, with the bins emptied at the end. Leave a note if one job matters more this week. The domestic cleaning page describes the rota in full.
A deep clean adds the inside of empty cupboards and drawers, limescale on taps and screens, grout, skirting along its full length, doors, frames and switches. We bring the equipment and detergents. Carpets are cleaned by hot water extraction and usually dry in a few hours, depending on ventilation; ovens are done by hand in your kitchen, with the racks and trays soaked, and can be used the same evening.
Before a deep clean, empty the cupboards you want cleaned inside, clear the worktops if you can and leave the water and electricity on. If one room is out of bounds, close the door and mention it when we ring; the hours are agreed around the rooms you want done.

Parking and licensing around Angel
Islington’s controlled parking zones cover the borough. Most run from 8.30am to 6.30pm on weekdays and some on Saturdays too, while zones C and K are controlled 24 hours a day. If you hold a resident permit, an Islington visitor e-voucher covers a cleaner who drives, with nothing on display.
Licensing differs ward by ward. Of the three wards around Angel only Barnsbury is in Islington’s new selective licensing scheme, which runs from 23 November 2026 to 22 November 2031; St Peter’s & Canalside and St Mary’s & St James’ are in neither the 2024 nor the 2026 designation. Islington’s additional licensing still applies across all three to HMOs with 3 or 4 unrelated people, including flats in purpose-built blocks and converted buildings that do not meet the 1991 Building Regulations.

Questions about cleaning at the Angel
Do you clean in both N1 and EC1V?
Yes. Angel straddles two postcode districts, N1 and EC1V, and we cover both. Put your full postcode in the form and it shows the price for that address.
My flat is in Barnsbury. Is it in the new licensing scheme?
Barnsbury ward is in Islington’s selective licensing scheme from 23 November 2026, covering private lets to one person, two sharers or a single household. The licence is for the landlord to arrange; the clean is priced the same way either side of it.
Do you bring the cleaning equipment?
For a deep clean, a moving-out clean or an after builders clean, yes: the cleaners arrive with the equipment and detergents. You keep the water and electricity on.
Can you clean a top-floor flat in a converted terrace?
Yes. Tell us the floor and whether the stair is shared when we ring back, so we can plan how the equipment for a deep clean gets up there.
How do I book a cleaner at the Angel?
Send the form or ring 020 3734 1438, any time. We ring back during opening hours, 8am to 7pm seven days a week, to agree the date and confirm the price. A 50% deposit secures the booking and the rest is due once the clean is done.
