A couple with mugs at the breakfast bar of a new-build flat with tall windows onto trees

Kingsland High Street, Dalston’s main road, follows the old Roman Ermine Street, and a regular cleaner for a home in the streets around it costs £23 an hour, with three hours as the minimum visit.

A deep clean in a Dalston flat, start to finish

Take a two-bed flat in a converted house, the kind 21.5% of Dalston ward households live in. Before the day you tell us the door code and the floor. Two cleaners arrive with the equipment and detergents, and you have left the water and electricity on.

One cleaner starts in the kitchen. Cupboards are wiped out shelf by shelf, the fridge is cleaned out, the hob and extractor hood degreased, tiles and grout scrubbed and the sink descaled. The other takes the bathroom first, because it has the most limescale to shift: Thames Water’s 2025 reports for the Hackney West, Shacklewell & Canonbury and Hackney South supply zones give mean hardness of 268, 264 and 278 mg/l, all in the hard band, and that shows on the shower screen and around the taps.

Then the rooms, high to low. Picture rails, the tops of doors and wardrobes, light fittings, window frames and their sills, radiators and the skirting boards that older houses have plenty of. Furniture that can be moved safely is pulled out and cleaned behind. Floors are done last, vacuumed and then mopped, working back towards the front door.

A regular visit is the lighter version of the same order: the kitchen and bathroom cleaned, surfaces dusted, beds made and floors finished. Anything extra you want done on a given week can go on the list when you book.

Prices for a Dalston clean

A weekly cleaner is £23 an hour and a fortnightly one £24, so the shortest weekly visit costs £69. The deep clean described above is billed at £26 per cleaner-hour plus £30 once for the kit, starting at £186 for two cleaners over three hours. Moving out has fixed prices, £207 for a one-bed and £243 for a two-bed, and any one-off job starts at £67; the price list has every size and add-on. Where a one-off clean has no free parking near the door, we add what the bay costs on the day, capped at £40.

For a tenant leaving, the Hackney end of tenancy clean comes with a return visit: if the inventory clerk or letting agent marks something we cleaned, tell us within 48 hours and we put it right at no charge. Carpets are cleaned by hot water extraction from £36 a room through carpet cleaning, and a single oven is £77 with oven cleaning in Hackney, its racks and trays soaked while the inside is cleaned by hand.

Renting, conservation areas and Zone C

More Dalston households rent privately than in the rest of the borough. In the ward 43.0% of households rent privately against 32.2% across Hackney; social renting is 27.0%, well under the borough’s 40.5%, and another 27.0% own. Of the 3,998 households, 84.1% live in flats: 52.4% in purpose-built blocks, 21.5% in converted or shared houses and 7.2% in other converted buildings, with 11.6% in terraced houses.

Because Dalston is one of the 17 wards in Hackney’s selective licensing scheme, every privately let home here needs a licence from 1 May 2026 to 30 April 2031. Shared homes with three or more people from two or more households need an additional licence anywhere in the borough.

Two conservation areas cover the old centre. Dalston, designated on 20 July 2016, runs along Kingsland High Street, a shopping street of Victorian and Edwardian buildings with long rows of purpose-built terraces. Dalston Lane (West) protects the old village core, a ribbon of Georgian and Victorian building along Dalston Lane, and the industrial buildings around Ashwin Street. The council calls Dalston its largest town centre, known for Ridley Road market, the night venues around Gillett Square and the High Street shops, and it has picked five council-owned sites (Birkbeck Mews, Dalston Lane and three on Ashwin Street) for new affordable homes and workspace.

Parking in Zone C is controlled Monday to Saturday from 8.30am to 6.30pm. Short stays there cost £3.65 to £6.75 an hour with a one-hour minimum, paid by RingGo, at a machine or at a PayPoint.

Two stations and the streets next door

Dalston Junction is on the Windrush line and Dalston Kingsland on the Mildmay line, both in fare zone 2, and the area has postcodes in N16 and N1 as well as E8. North of the junction, Stoke Newington has a page of its own, and to the west Highbury is covered with the rest of Islington.

Dalston cleaning questions

Does my Dalston landlord need a licence?

Yes, for almost any private let. Dalston ward is inside Hackney’s selective licensing scheme from 1 May 2026 to 30 April 2031, and shared homes of three or more people from two or more households also need an additional licence.

When do I need to pay for parking on my Dalston street?

In Zone C the bays are controlled Monday to Saturday, 8.30am to 6.30pm, which covers most cleaning hours. Sunday visits fall outside those hours. Short stays cost £3.65 to £6.75 an hour, with a one-hour minimum.

Can you clean a flat above a shop on Kingsland High Street?

Yes. About 3% of Dalston ward households live in a flat in a commercial building. Tell us how the door and stairs work when you book, and the cleaner comes prepared.

How long does a deep clean of a Dalston flat take?

It depends on the size and the state of the flat. The smallest booking is two cleaners for three hours at £186, and bigger homes get more cleaners or more hours, agreed with you on the phone before the day.

Tell us the street and what needs cleaning, and we will ring back with a price for your Dalston home.
