A mother holding her baby in a bright, tidy flat with the balcony door open

Four in five Hackney households live in a flat, most of them in purpose-built blocks, and a weekly cleaner for one costs £23 an hour with a three-hour minimum visit.

That puts the smallest weekly booking at £69. Fortnightly visits are £24 an hour. A one-off deep clean is charged at £26 per cleaner-hour, with £30 added once for the equipment and detergents the team brings, so two cleaners for three hours (the shortest deep clean we book) comes to £186. Moving out has a fixed price by size: £156 for a studio, £207 for one bedroom, £243 for two and £339 for three. Any one-off job starts at £67, and the price list has carpets, sofas and ovens. If the street has no free parking, the bay is added at its cost on the day and never above £40.

Flats, estates and conversions in Hackney

The 2021 Census split Hackney’s flats four ways: 60.4% of households in purpose-built blocks, 15.5% in converted or shared houses, 3.4% in other converted buildings and 1.6% in commercial buildings. Terraced houses held 13.9% and semi-detached homes 3.6%. Social renting is the biggest tenure at 40.5% (20.7% council, 19.8% other social landlords). Private renting is 32.2%, and 24.6% of households own their home.

For the cleaner the difference shows up in access and stairs. A flat on an estate or in a newer block usually has a lift and a bin store. A flat cut out of a Victorian house has a shared staircase, sash windows and often a narrow kitchen at the back. Hackney Council lists 35 conservation areas, from Georgian squares and Victorian villa streets to the old furniture workshops of South Shoreditch, and several carry Article 4 Directions. If your home has original plaster, fireplaces or old timber floors, mention them on the form so the cleaner knows before arriving.

The stock keeps changing. At Woodberry Down in north Hackney an estate of about 2,000 homes is being replaced by a planned 5,500 over 20 years, with at least 41 per cent for social rent or shared ownership.

A regular Hackney clean, room by room

Most visits start in the kitchen: worktops and splashback wiped, the hob degreased, the sink and taps descaled, cupboard fronts and appliance doors cleaned and the floor mopped last. The bathroom comes next, and in Hackney it takes the most effort. Thames Water’s 2025 reports for its Hackney West, Hackney South, Homerton and Shacklewell & Canonbury supply zones give average hardness of 268, 278, 269 and 264 mg/l, all inside the company’s hard band of 200 to 300, so scale returns to shower glass and chrome within days.

In the bedrooms and living room the cleaner dusts from the top down, makes the beds if you leave fresh linen out, polishes mirrors and vacuums or mops every floor. Three hours is the minimum; a house over several floors usually needs longer, and we agree the hours on the phone.

A deep clean adds the jobs a weekly visit skips: inside the cupboards and the fridge, skirting boards and door frames, grout, window tracks, the extractor hood and behind furniture that can be moved safely. You keep the water and electricity on and the team brings everything else.

Leaving a tenancy, carpets and the oven

Tenants moving out book the end of tenancy clean in Hackney at the fixed prices above. If the inventory clerk or letting agent marks something we cleaned, tell us within 48 hours and we come back to put it right at no charge. An oven can be added to that clean for £31, or £62 for a double or a 90cm range.

Carpets are cleaned by hot water extraction and priced by the room, from £36 for a bedroom and £41 for a flight of stairs; carpet cleaning across Hackney has the full list, and drying usually takes a few hours depending on ventilation. A single oven booked alone is £77 through oven cleaning in Hackney. Racks, trays and shelf supports soak while the cavity, glass and seals are cleaned by hand in your kitchen, and the oven can be used again that evening.

Booking a cleaner and parking in Hackney’s zones

Send the form or ring 020 3734 1438, which you can do at any hour. We ring back between 8am and 7pm, any day of the week, to agree the date and confirm the price against your home. A 50% deposit secures the date and the rest is paid once the clean is done. Every cleaner we send is vetted and trained.

Hackney sets parking hours zone by zone. Zone D around Hackney Central is controlled Monday to Saturday from 8.30am to 11pm, Zone C in Dalston to 6.30pm and Zone B North in Shoreditch to midnight. A visitor can use a pay and display bay, a one-day visitor voucher or a council car park, and short stays cost between £3.65 and £7.90 an hour depending on the zone, with a one-hour minimum. The all-zone e-permit and the voucher both limit vehicles to 2.27 m high and 5.25 m long, and neither promises a space.

Dalston, Shoreditch and Stoke Newington

Three Hackney districts have pages of their own. Dalston and Stoke Newington are both among the 17 wards in the borough’s new selective licensing scheme, while the south of Shoreditch keeps the furniture workshops its conservation area was drawn around. Hackney Central has its own conservation area: Town Hall Square, designated in 1995, takes in the Town Hall and Hackney Empire and links Mare Street to Clapton Square. The borough also has three parks on Historic England’s register, Abney Park Cemetery, Clissold Park and Springfield Park.

Questions about cleaning in Hackney

Which Hackney postcodes do you cover?

All of them: E5, E8, E9 and N16, and the parts of N1, E2, N4, EC2A and E20 that Hackney shares with its neighbours. The prices are the same in every one.

Does a landlord need a licence to let a Hackney flat?

Often, yes. From 1 May 2026 to 30 April 2031 most privately let homes in 17 named wards, including Hackney Central, London Fields and Clissold, need a selective licence. A borough-wide additional licence also covers shared homes with three or more people from two or more households, unless the mandatory scheme applies.

What should I do with an old sofa before a move-out clean?

Book the council’s bulky waste collection before the clean, so the rooms are clear when the cleaners arrive. Hackney Council collects items such as sofas, mattresses and washing machines for a fee, and it points landlords and tradespeople to its commercial waste service instead.

Can you clean a new flat at Woodberry Down?

Yes. Flats in the new Woodberry Down blocks are cleaned like any other, by the hour for a regular or deep clean. If a flat is newly finished and still dusty from the fit-out, an after builders clean from £212 is the better fit.

Do you clean council and housing association flats?

Yes. Social renting is the largest tenure in Hackney, and a council flat gets the same regular or deep clean as any other home, priced by the hour or by size in the same way.

Tell us the postcode and the size of the home, and we will ring back with a price for your Hackney clean.
