Bow Quarter on Fairfield Road was the Bryant and May match factory until 1979 and is now private housing; a regular cleaner there, or anywhere in E3, costs £23 an hour.

A regular visit to a Bow terrace, step by step

The terraces on Wrexham Road, Jebb Street and Ridgdale Street are low, two or three storeys, and a regular clean of one runs top to bottom. The cleaner starts upstairs: the bathroom first, because the water here leaves the most to clear. Thames Water’s 2025 report for its Bow supply zone gives mean hardness of 264 mg/l, with samples from 252 to 281, and the Globe Town zone next door averages 269, both in the hard band. Taps, the shower screen, the basin and the toilet are descaled and wiped, the mirror polished and the floor washed.

The bedrooms come next. Surfaces and the tops of wardrobes are dusted, beds made with the linen you have left out and the floors vacuumed. The stairs are vacuumed on the way down, tread by tread, with the banister and skirting wiped as the cleaner goes.

On the ground floor the kitchen gets the longest stretch: worktops cleared and wiped, the hob and splashback degreased, the sink and taps descaled, the outside of the fridge and the cupboard doors cleaned. The living room is dusted, then every downstairs floor is vacuumed and mopped, finishing at the front door. In a flat the same order applies, room by room, without the stairs.

A deep clean follows the same route with more stops: inside the kitchen cupboards and the fridge, the extractor hood, grout, door frames, window sills and tracks, and behind furniture that can be moved. The team brings the equipment and detergents, and the water and electricity stay on.

Prices in E3

The weekly rate is £23 an hour and the fortnightly rate £24, with three hours as the minimum, which makes a weekly visit at least £69. A deep clean costs £26 per cleaner-hour plus £30 for equipment and detergents; two cleaners for three hours is the smallest, at £186. Every one-off job starts at £67. Bays across Bow are paid during controlled hours, so where a one-off clean has no free parking close by, the bay is charged at its cost on the day and never above £40. The price list has everything else.

Moving out has fixed prices, £243 for two bedrooms and £339 for three, through the end of tenancy clean, and if the inventory clerk or letting agent marks something we cleaned, tell us within 48 hours and we return to put it right at no charge. A stair carpet is £41 a flight with carpet cleaning by hot water extraction, and oven cleaning starts at £77 for a single oven, done by hand in your kitchen.

To book, send the form or ring 020 3734 1438 whenever suits you. We ring back from 8am to 7pm, seven days a week, to agree the date and confirm the price, and a 50% deposit secures it. The rest is paid after the clean. The cleaners are vetted and trained.

Bow East, Bow West and the conservation areas

Bow splits by ward. Across Bow East and Bow West, 13,687 households in 2021, 79.5% live in flats (67.7% in purpose-built blocks) and 16.3% in terraced houses. Bow West is the house side, with 24.9% of households in terraces and 10.4% in converted or shared houses; Bow East is 75.9% purpose-built flats and 10.9% terraces. Another 5.5% of households across the two live in converted buildings such as former warehouses, schools and churches. Social renting is 36.0%, ownership 29.5% and private renting 30.9%, a smaller private share than the 38.2% across Tower Hamlets.

The match factory at Bow Quarter dates from 1861, is Grade II listed and was turned into an inward-looking private development after it closed. It sits inside the Fairfield Road conservation area, designated in September 1989, which also has locally listed terraces and a Grade II listed trolleybus depot of 1910. Roman Road Market, set up in 1888, runs along a partly pedestrianised street that is effectively closed to traffic on market days, and its conservation area includes the Grade II listed Passmore Edwards library of 1900. The Victoria Park conservation area, designated in March 1977, takes in the Grade II* listed park, bounded in part by the Hertford Union Canal, with the Regent’s Canal on its western side.

Parking in Zone B and getting to Bow

Zone B covers Bow, and its sub-zones differ. B1 and part of B3 are controlled Monday to Saturday 8.30am to 5.30pm; B2 and the rest of B3 Monday to Friday over the same hours; B4 Monday to Saturday 8.30am to 7.30pm, plus Sundays when London Stadium has an event. Cashless parking is £5.50 an hour, or £8.50 for a diesel. By train, Bow Road is on the District and Hammersmith & City lines and Bow Church on the DLR, both in fare zone 2. The Stratford and Bethnal Green pages cover the districts next door.

Bow cleaning questions

Can you clean a flat in Bow Quarter?

Yes. Bow Quarter is a private development, so tell us how the cleaner gets into the site and your building when you book, and we pass it on before the day.

Does a London Stadium event affect parking for the cleaner?

In sub-zone B4 it does: the bays there are controlled on Sundays when the stadium has an event, as well as Monday to Saturday until 7.30pm.

Do Bow landlords need a licence for a shared house?

Yes, if three or more people from two or more households live there. Tower Hamlets’ additional licensing covers the whole borough from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2029.

How long does a regular clean of a Bow terrace take?

The minimum is three hours. A two or three storey terrace with stairs and a second bathroom often needs more, and we agree the hours with you on the phone before the first visit.

Can the cleaner park on Roman Road on a market day?

No. The market street is partly pedestrianised and effectively closed to vehicles while the market runs, so the cleaner parks in a side street bay instead. Tell us if your home is on the market stretch.

Tell us the street and the size of the home, and we will ring back with a price for your Bow clean.
