Grandparents and a small boy laughing on the sofa of a 1930s semi-detached house

Bexley’s 1930s boom left large estates of two-storey houses, and 44.2% of households now live in a semi. Carpet cleaning here costs £36 a bedroom, with stairs and landings priced on their own.

Bexley carpet cleaning prices

Rooms are priced one by one: bedroom £36, living room £43, through lounge £61, hallway £22, landing £9 and stairs £41 a flight. Rugs cost £35 up to 3 square metres and £51 above. A one-off visit starts at £67.

Take a three-bed semi with a through lounge. Its three bedrooms are £36 each and the lounge £61, and then come the hallway, the stairs and the landing at £22, £41 and £9. A three-bed flat on one floor has the hallway too, but no stairs or landing, so the same bedroom count costs less.

All of this is on the price list. On a street with no free parking, the day’s parking cost is added, to a limit of £40.

Bexley’s houses and their carpets

Bexley grew fast between the wars. In the council’s own Local Character Study, the 1930s boom comes down to volume builders and the electrification of the Bexleyheath railway line. Ideal Homesteads was one of the firms behind it, and its estates were mostly two-storey houses, semi-detached or detached. Some Art Deco homes from those years survive on Danson Road.

At the 2021 Census, 44.2% of households lived in semi-detached houses, 23.6% in terraces and 7.4% in detached homes, while flats made up 24.7%. Most households owned their home (68.6%), a third of all households outright.

In a two-storey house the stairs and the landing usually take the heaviest wear, since every trip upstairs crosses them, and they are priced as separate pieces so you can book them on their own between full cleans.

Room by room: what the cleaner does

Bedrooms

Clear the floor of shoes, boxes and anything under the bed you want cleaned beneath. Each carpet is cleaned by hot water extraction, which works hot water and a cleaning solution into the pile and draws it straight back out with the dirt.

Living room or through lounge

A through lounge, the front and back rooms knocked into one, is priced once at £61. Lift out chairs, side tables and anything else that moves easily before the visit; the cleaner works around a sofa or a cabinet that has to stay.

Stairs, landing and hallway

The stairs are cleaned flight by flight, followed by the landing and then the hallway at the bottom. With the bedrooms finished upstairs first, nobody has to walk back across a damp carpet.

Drying

Drying usually takes a few hours and depends on ventilation. Windows open upstairs and down, with the internal doors open, help the air move through the house. In winter, the heating on low speeds things up.

Stains, wear and what to expect

Tell us about stains when you book, and point them out again on the day. Food, drink and mud usually respond well to hot water extraction, especially if nobody has scrubbed at them with a household spray first. A mark that has been there for years, or one rubbed with a strong product, may lighten without disappearing.

Some marks are not dirt at all. Bleach and some cleaning products take the colour out of the fibres, and flattened pile where a wardrobe stood for years is wear. Cleaning freshens both, but it cannot put back colour or pile that has gone, and the cleaner will say so on the day.

Rugs, sofas and moving-out add-ons

Rugs are cleaned on the spot, on the floor where they lie, and never taken away: £35 for one up to 3 square metres, £51 for anything larger. Sofas, armchairs, mattresses and curtains are priced on the upholstery cleaning page and can be booked for the same visit.

If you are moving out of a rented house, carpets cost £29 a bedroom and £36 for the living room when added to an end of tenancy clean in Bexley. Landlords re-letting can book them on their own at the room prices above.

Booking carpet cleaning in Bexley

Send the form with your rooms, or ring 020 3734 1438; we work 8am to 7pm, seven days. We ring back to agree a date and confirm the price, and a 50% deposit secures it, with the rest due once the carpets are done. If the house has a loft conversion, say how many flights of stairs there are, since each one is priced separately.

If you live in a permit zone, Bexley sells visitor scratch cards only to the zone’s residents, in books of ten, and they cost more in the Bexleyheath, Sidcup and Welling town centre zones.

A morning booking leaves the rest of the day for drying, which helps if the bedrooms are needed that night. The London carpet cleaning page has more on stains and drying, and cleaning services in Bexley covers regular and deep cleaning in the borough.

Questions about carpet cleaning in Bexley

How is a through lounge priced?

As one room at £61. A separate living room is £43.

Will the carpet be dry by bedtime?

Usually, if the clean is in the morning or early afternoon. Drying takes a few hours and depends on ventilation, so open windows help.

Is the landing included with the stairs?

No, it is priced separately at £9, with the flight itself at £41.

Do I need to move the furniture?

Move what you can, such as chairs, side tables and things stored under beds. The cleaner works around heavy pieces like wardrobes and sofas.

Is there a minimum charge?

Yes. One-off work starts at £67, so a single bedroom booked on its own is charged at that minimum.

Do you clean carpets at the weekend?

Yes. We work 8am to 7pm seven days a week, so a Saturday or Sunday clean is booked the same way as a weekday one.

Send the rooms, the stairs and any rugs through the form, or ring 020 3734 1438.
