Bexley’s water is very hard: Thames Water’s Bexley and Blackfen zone averaged 304 mg/l in 2025. A weekly house cleaner here costs £23 an hour, and deep cleans that tackle the scale start at £186.
Fortnightly cleaning is £24 an hour. Visits run for a minimum of 3 hours (£69 for the shortest weekly one), and a two-storey house usually books longer. A deep clean costs £26 per cleaner-hour with two cleaners for at least three hours, plus a single £30 charge for the equipment and detergents, so the smallest is £186. One-off work starts at £67. In streets with no free parking we add the cost of parking on the day, never more than £40. The price list sets out every service.
Bexley’s 1930s houses
Houses dominate in Bexley. The 2021 Census puts 44.2% of households in semi-detached homes, 23.6% in terraces and 7.4% in detached houses; flats are only 24.7%, nearly all of them (21.3%) in purpose-built blocks. Owner-occupation is 68.6%, and almost half of that is owned outright (32.7%), with 15.3% renting privately and 14.7% from social landlords, only 2.6% from the council.
The council’s Local Character Study describes a 1930s suburban boom driven by volume builders and the electrified Bexleyheath line. Firms such as Ideal Homesteads built large estates of mostly two-storey detached and semi-detached homes, and Art Deco houses survive on Danson Road in Bexleyheath. Older still is Red House, on Red House Lane, which Philip Webb designed for William Morris and finished in 1860; the National Trust runs pre-booked tours there from May to October.
Bexley has no district pages of its own on this site. If you live near the border, the Woolwich and Bromley pages describe the neighbouring streets, and the borough’s service pages are listed here.
A house clean, floor by floor
A regular clean in a two-storey house usually runs from the top down:
- Upstairs: the bathroom suite and tiles, bedrooms dusted and beds made up if you leave the linen ready, the landing hoovered.
- Stairs: hoovered tread by tread, banisters wiped.
- Downstairs: the kitchen worktops, hob, sink and cupboard fronts, the downstairs toilet if there is one, the living and dining rooms dusted, then the hall and floors last.
Scale is the stubborn part. Thames Water puts anything over 300 mg/l in its very hard band, and the Bexley and Blackfen zone, which its lookup gives for a DA5 postcode in St Mary’s and St James ward, ranged from 287 to 318 in 2025. Kettles, shower heads and glass screens fur up quickly at that level, so the taps and screens get attention every visit, and a deep clean can descale properly, along with the inside of cupboards, the skirting boards and the backs of radiators.
- End of tenancy cleaningfrom £156A fixed price by the size of the home, with a 48-hour re-clean if the inventory clerk marks something we cleaned.
- Deep cleaningfrom £186A team of two or more for a day of the jobs a weekly clean never reaches.
- Domestic cleaningfrom £69 a visitA weekly or fortnightly cleaner, the same person where we can manage it.
- After builders cleaningfrom £212Dust, paint spots and grout film cleared once the trades have gone.
- Carpet cleaningfrom £67Hot water extraction priced by the room, rugs cleaned where they lie.

More work for Bexley houses
An end of tenancy clean is a fixed price by size; a three-bedroom house is £339. Should the inventory clerk or letting agent mark something we cleaned, tell us within 48 hours and we come back to put it right at no charge. Licensing is light here: Bexley’s guide lists mandatory HMO licensing from 1 October 2018 and one selective scheme, for Belvedere ward only, from 13 January 2025 to 12 January 2030, with no additional HMO scheme.
Houses mean stairs, and stair carpets are priced by the flight at £41, with bedrooms at £36 (carpet cleaning in Bexley). Hot water extraction leaves them damp for a few hours, less with the windows open. Ovens are £77 for a single and £110 for a double; the racks and trays are soaked and the cavity, glass and seals cleaned by hand, so the kitchen is back in use the same evening.
If old furniture has to go first, Bexley’s bulky collection starts at £50 on weekdays and is booked and paid for online. It takes items left neatly outside in an agreed spot, off the public highway, any time after 6am, and the crew will not collect from inside the house or from a back garden without side access.
Booking a cleaner in Bexley
Send the form, or ring us on 020 3734 1438 at any hour. We call back between 8am and 7pm, any day of the week, to agree the date and check the price against the house; a 50% deposit holds the booking and the balance is due once the clean is finished. Water and electricity stay on for the visit.
Parking here is mostly about permit zones. Visitor scratch cards are sold only to residents of a zone, in books of ten (£27 in the Bexleyheath, Sidcup and Welling town centre zones, a little less elsewhere), and businesses cannot buy them. When we ring back, tell us whether your street is in a permit zone and what the parking is like outside.

Bexley cleaning questions
Do you clean 1930s semis in Bexleyheath and Welling?
Yes, and they are the commonest home in the borough: 44.2% of households live in a semi-detached house. A regular clean of a three-bedroom semi usually needs more than the 3-hour minimum, and we agree the hours when we ring back.
Can you deep clean a large detached house?
Yes. Detached homes are 7.4% of Bexley households, and for those we send more cleaners or book more hours: the form takes two to four cleaners for three to eight hours, at £26 per cleaner-hour plus £30 once for the kit.
Can the cleaner park on a yellow line outside?
Only with a council dispensation. For work that needs continuous access to a building, anyone can apply to Bexley to park on single or double yellow lines at £25 per vehicle per day or £125 per week, with at least one working day’s notice. It does not cover permit, disabled or pay and display bays, and red routes are a matter for TfL.
How do I slow the limescale down between cleans?
Dry the shower screen and taps after use and descale the kettle often. With water averaging 304 mg/l in the zone sampled, scale is back within days, so a regular clean keeps it thin and a deep clean every so often clears what builds up.
