Terraces (23.4%) and semis (21.9%) house close to half of Ealing’s households, so carpet cleaning here often includes a staircase. A bedroom is £36 and a flight of stairs £41.
All carpets are cleaned by hot water extraction and priced per room. Rugs are cleaned where they lie and never collected. Drying usually takes a few hours, and how many depends on the ventilation in the room.
Victorian and Edwardian streets in Ealing and Acton
A large share of the borough’s housing is protected: the council lists almost 600 listed buildings and 30 conservation areas, most of them nineteenth and early twentieth century streets of houses, along with parks, old village cores and railway and industrial sites.
Three of those conservation areas are in Acton. William Willett founded the walled Mill Hill Park estate in 1877, and its streets (Heathfield Road, Avenue Gardens, Avenue Crescent) put mid-Victorian Italianate terraces and cottages next to Arts and Crafts and mock Tudor villas. Acton Green, beside the common and its railway embankment, has Victorian terraces and mansion flats from around 1900. Acton Park is mostly Victorian and Edwardian, built up around a park that opened in 1888. The Acton page has the district’s other services.
Across the three Acton wards, though, flats dominate: 69.7% of households, with 48.6% in purpose-built blocks and only 10.9% in terraced houses. A carpet visit in W3 is more often a flat with a hallway than a house with stairs.
Two Acton homes show how the booking changes. A Mill Hill Park terrace with three bedrooms carries the bedrooms, the living room, a flight of stairs at £41 and the landing at £9. A three-bedroom mansion flat at Acton Green carries the same rooms plus its hallway at £22; the communal stair outside the front door belongs to the block.
Carpet prices in Ealing
A bedroom costs £36 and a living room £43; a through lounge, two rooms opened into one, is £61. Stairs are £41 per flight, a landing £9 and a hallway £22. A rug up to 3 square metres is £35 and a bigger one £51. One-off work starts at £67, so a lone hallway is charged at that minimum. The price list has every other service.
On a street with no free parking, parking is added at what it costs on the day, up to £40.

Included in every room
Before the machine goes on, small things come off the floor and the carpet is vacuumed; then spots and the worn tracks between doorways are pre-treated. Hot water and a cleaning solution are then driven into the pile and extracted along with the loosened dirt. Beds, wardrobes and sofas stay put and the cleaner works around them.
On stairs the cleaner starts at the top landing and comes down tread by tread, riser by riser. A rug is cleaned where it lies, whether that is on floorboards or on a fitted carpet. The extraction machine draws on your water and electricity, so leave both on. More on the method, stains and drying is on the London carpet cleaning page.
Parking in Acton’s zones
Ealing sets controlled hours zone by zone, and Acton shows how far they differ. Zone J at Acton Town and Zone K1 are controlled only from 9am to 10am and 3pm to 4pm on weekdays. East Acton’s Zone E is close to that, 9am to 10am and 2pm to 3pm. Zone K in Acton Central runs right through the working day, 9.30am to 5.30pm. Acton Green, South Acton Estate, West Acton and The Vale Estate are zones of their own, each with its own hours.
A carpet visit is shorter than a full move-out, so in the short-window zones a slot that starts after 10am can often miss the controlled hours. In Zone K a resident can buy the cleaner a PayByPhone visitor session at £1.05 an hour.
Throwing things out at the same time
If old furniture or a worn rug is going out on the same day, Ealing’s bulky items crews refuse anything that mould or pests have touched, and they do not collect on red routes such as the A40. Homes on a red route can book the West London Waste Authority service instead.

Carpet questions from Ealing homes
Do period houses in a conservation area cost more?
No. Carpets are priced by the room and the flight whatever the age of the house, so a Mill Hill Park terrace pays the same per room as a new flat.
Will the carpet be dry by bedtime?
Usually, if the clean is in the morning. Drying takes a few hours in most rooms and depends on ventilation, so open a window if the weather allows.
Is a mansion flat priced like a house?
Each home pays for what is carpeted inside it. A flat has its rooms and hallway; a house adds stairs at £41 a flight and £9 a landing. A block’s common stairs are outside the booking.
Can you clean a rug without taking it away?
That is the only way we clean rugs: where they lie, never collected. Up to 3 square metres is £35, and anything larger is £51.
Can the sofa be cleaned on the same visit?
Yes. A two-seat sofa is £57 and an armchair £33, and the upholstery cleaning page lists the rest.
Send the form with the rooms and stairs you want cleaned, or ring 020 3734 1438.
