Most homes in Acton are flats: 69.7% of households across the East, North and South Acton wards at the 2021 Census. A weekly cleaner costs £23 an hour, and a deep clean starts at £186.

Blocks, conversions and Willett’s estate

South Acton has the most flats of the three wards, at 81.9% of households. Across all three, 48.6% of households live in purpose-built blocks and 18.2% in converted or shared houses, and only 10.9% in terraced houses. Renters outnumber owners by almost two to one: 39.3% rent privately (45.7% in North Acton) and 23.8% rent socially (30.0% in South Acton), against 33.5% who own.

The older streets are conservation areas. Mill Hill Park, in South Acton ward, is the walled estate William Willett founded in 1877 along Heathfield Road, Avenue Gardens and Avenue Crescent, where mid-Victorian Italianate terraces and cottages stand next to Arts and Crafts and mock Tudor villas. Acton Green is built around the common and its railway embankment, with Victorian terraces and mansion flats from the turn of the century. Acton Park is mostly Victorian and Edwardian, and its landmark is the Goldsmiths’ Almshouses on East Churchfield Road.

The town is older than any of them. The council’s appraisal records the village from 1222 and a market licence from 1232, and the parades along the High Street and Churchfield Road grew up after the railways arrived.

Acton cleaning prices

Regular cleaning is £23 an hour on a weekly rota and £24 an hour fortnightly, for at least 3 hours a visit (£69 at the weekly rate). Deep cleans are charged per cleaner-hour at £26, two cleaners for three hours at the least, plus £30 for the kit they bring. Moving-out cleans have fixed prices, from £156 for a studio to £243 for a two-bedroom flat.

One-off jobs start at £67. If your street has no free parking, one-off cleans carry the parking at its cost on the day, capped at £40. The full price list covers carpets, ovens and upholstery too.

The weekly visit, the deep clean and the extras

On a weekly or fortnightly visit one cleaner keeps the kitchen, the bathroom and the floors in order. Worktops, hob and sink are wiped down, the toilet, basin and shower cleaned, mirrors polished, surfaces dusted, beds changed if you leave clean bedding out and every floor hoovered or mopped. In a one-bedroom flat with a small kitchen, three hours can leave time for an extra job each week, such as the inside of the microwave.

A deep clean brings two or more cleaners for the grease, dust and scale that build up between visits: inside cupboards once you have emptied them, the tops of doors and units, skirting, radiators, switches, grout and the shower screen. In the period houses around Acton Park and Mill Hill Park the cleaners take care over original skirting and joinery, dusting by hand.

Three more jobs are priced separately. The end of tenancy clean is a fixed price by size. If the inventory clerk marks something we cleaned and you tell us within 48 hours, we go back and put it right at no charge. Carpet cleaning is by hot water extraction from £36 a room, and oven cleaning is done by hand in the kitchen from £77.

Parking zones and selective licences in Acton

Acton’s parking is set zone by zone. Zone J around Acton Town is controlled only from 9am to 10am and 3pm to 4pm on weekdays, and Zone E in East Acton from 9am to 10am and 2pm to 3pm. Zone K in Acton Central runs from 9.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday, while neighbouring Zone K1 keeps the short morning and afternoon hours. Acton Green, South Acton Estate, West Acton and The Vale Estate each have their own zone and times, so give us the street when you book.

Landlords have selective licensing to think about on top of the borough-wide scheme for shared houses. A single-household let in East Acton has needed a selective licence since 1 April 2022, and one in Acton Central or South Acton since 3 January 2023, under a designation that runs to 2 January 2028. The council’s lists use ward names from before May 2022, and it points owners to its postcode checker to confirm a street.

Acton is part of the London Borough of Ealing, and its service pages are below.

Seven stations and the streets next door

Seven stations carry Acton’s name. Acton Town has the District and Piccadilly lines, Acton Central and South Acton the Mildmay line, and Acton Main Line the Elizabeth line and Great Western Railway; North, East and West Acton are on the Central line. All are in zone 3 except East Acton, in zone 2, and North Acton, which sits on the boundary.

Over the borough line, Chiswick and Shepherd’s Bush have pages of their own. To book in W3, send the form or ring 020 3734 1438 at any hour. We ring back between 8am and 7pm, seven days, to set the date and confirm the price, and a 50% deposit holds the booking until the rest is paid when the clean is done. Every cleaner is vetted and trained.

Acton cleaning questions

Where can a cleaner park near Acton Town station?

Zone J is controlled only from 9am to 10am and 3pm to 4pm on weekdays, so between 10am and 3pm the street is open. In a zone with longer hours, residents can buy a visitor session through PayByPhone at £1.05 an hour or £6.20 a day.

Do you clean the houses on the Mill Hill Park estate?

Yes. The estate’s Italianate terraces and cottages and its Arts and Crafts and mock Tudor villas are all homes, and the hours for each are agreed on the call once we know the rooms and the stairs.

Does my let in South Acton need a selective licence?

A single-household let in Acton Central or South Acton has needed one since 3 January 2023, and in East Acton since 1 April 2022. Check the exact street with the council’s postcode checker, because the scheme uses the old ward boundaries.

How much is a deep clean of a two-bedroom Acton flat?

Usually two cleaners for four to five hours, which is eight to ten cleaner-hours at £26 each plus £30 for the equipment. We confirm the hours when we ring back.

I live on the A40. How do I clear furniture before moving out?

Ealing’s own bulky collection costs thirty pounds for up to six items, but it does not serve red routes such as the A40. Residents on a red route can book the West London Waste Authority service instead.

Tell us your W3 street and the size of the home, and we will ring back with the price.
