A woman on a window seat in a mansion block flat with tall sash windows

Two in three Wandsworth households live in a flat (68.5 per cent at the 2021 Census), and a weekly cleaner for a flat or a house in the borough costs £23 an hour.

Fortnightly visits are £24 an hour. Each regular visit runs for 3 hours or more, so the smallest weekly booking comes to £69. A deep clean is charged by the cleaner-hour at £26, with £30 added once for the equipment and detergents the team brings, and two cleaners working for three hours makes £186. Any other one-off job starts at £67. Every service and size is on our price list. Where the street has no free parking, the bay is added at its cost on the day and never above £40.

Wandsworth homes: blocks, conversions and the Alton estate

Purpose-built blocks hold 48.1 per cent of the borough’s households, and most of the remaining flats sit in converted or shared houses. Terraced houses account for 22.2 per cent; semis (7.0 per cent) and detached houses (2.2 per cent) are rare. That shapes the hours. A one-bed in a block usually fits the three-hour minimum, while a converted flat over two floors, with its own stairs, needs longer.

Renting is common here. At the Census 36.3 per cent of Wandsworth households rented privately, more than in Merton (29.1), Kingston (27.3) or Sutton (20.3), and 19.3 per cent rented from the council or a housing association. Owners made up 42.5 per cent.

The council publishes conservation area appraisals for dozens of areas, among them Park Town, the Shaftesbury Park Estate, Nightingale Lane, Totterdown Fields and five Putney areas. The largest post-war one is the Alton estate in Roehampton (SW15): a 58 hectare conservation area designated on 15 March 2001, with five Grade II listed slab blocks on Highcliffe Drive and the landscaping of Alton West registered at Grade II as a park and garden. A listed block changes nothing about the clean inside a flat, though it helps us to know the floor and whether the lift is working before the team carries its kit up.

Three of the borough’s districts have pages of their own: Battersea with Nine Elms, Putney by the river and Tooting, which shares SW17 with Merton.

A regular visit and a deep clean, room by room

On a weekly or fortnightly visit the cleaner starts in the kitchen: worktops, hob top, splashback, sink and taps, the fronts of the cupboards and appliances, then the floor. The bathroom comes next (bath or shower, screen, basin, toilet, mirror and floor), followed by dusting, beds and the floors in the other rooms, with the bins taken out at the end. Regular cleans use your own hoover, mop and products, so keep them where the cleaner can find them.

Limescale gets time on every visit. Thames Water’s 2025 sampling put mean hardness in eight supply zones across the borough between 252 and 268 mg/l as calcium carbonate, highest in Battersea South and Balham and lowest at Putney Heath, and the company’s own scale counts anything from 200 to 300 as hard. Taps, shower screens and the kettle show it first.

A deep clean covers what a weekly visit never gets to. The team works inside emptied cupboards and drawers, behind furniture that can be moved, along skirting boards and door frames, over radiators and into the grout, and takes off the scale that weekly visits only keep in check. The deep cleaning page has the full scope, and domestic cleaning explains how a rota works.

Moving out, carpets and ovens in Wandsworth

For tenants on their way out, end of tenancy cleaning in Wandsworth has a fixed price by size, £156 for a studio up to £425 for four bedrooms. If the inventory clerk or letting agent marks something we cleaned, tell us within 48 hours and we come back to put it right at no charge.

Landlords here work under layered licensing. Since 1 July 2025 an additional licence has been needed across the whole borough for smaller shared homes (an HMO let to up to four people who share a kitchen or bathroom, say), and selective licensing has covered ordinary lets in Furzedown, South Balham, Tooting Bec and Tooting Broadway wards. A second selective designation took in East Putney, West Putney and Northcote on 1 April 2026 and runs to 31 March 2031, and the council’s notice warns of penalties of up to £30,000 for an unlicensed let. The council’s property licence check page has the details.

Carpets and ovens can go with any clean or be booked alone. Carpet cleaning uses hot water extraction, priced by the room from £36 for a bedroom, and rugs are cleaned where they lie; drying usually takes a few hours, depending on how well the room is ventilated. Oven cleaning starts at £77 for a single oven. Racks, trays and shelf supports soak while the cavity, glass and seals are cleaned by hand in your kitchen, and you can cook with it that evening.

Trade permits, bulky waste and skip days

A cleaner who drives to you parks on a council trade permit: a daily permit, a weekly scratch card for five or six days depending on the zone, or a virtual permit bought online (up to three a day, for up to three months). Each one covers one vehicle in one sub-zone. The council’s price page, last updated on 3 June 2024, lists a daily permit in an all-day zone at £10.70 on a scratch card or £10.10 paperless, and a five-day card at £54. Trade permits are not valid on housing estates, in private road schemes, off-street car parks, business bays or pay-and-display-only bays, so if you live on an estate, tell us how parking works there when we ring back.

The council’s bulky item page, updated on 15 October 2026, says free bulky collections have ended; fitted wardrobes and kitchen units go through a separate DIY collection, and range cookers are not taken. Residents can still use the free Mega Skip Days, held about twice a month: up to six items each (a bag, a sofa or a mattress counts as one), with proof of address, from 9am until the skip is full or noon. Cardboard, paint, plasterboard, rubble and hazardous waste are turned away.

Booking a cleaner in the borough

Fill in the form with your postcode, the size of the home and a date, or ring 020 3734 1438 at any hour. We ring back between 8am and 7pm, any day of the week, to agree the date and check the price against the home. A 50% deposit secures the booking and the balance is paid once the clean is finished. The cleaners we send are vetted and trained. On a deep clean the team brings its own equipment and products, and you leave the water and electricity on.

Wandsworth cleaning questions

Which postcodes does this page cover?

SW11, SW12, SW15, SW17 and SW18 belong to Wandsworth, and SW8, SW16 and SW19 are shared with neighbouring boroughs. We clean in all of them. Give us the full postcode on the form and we confirm the price when we ring back.

Can my cleaner use a trade permit on a housing estate?

No. Wandsworth trade permits do not work on housing estates or private road schemes, and each one is valid only in the CPZ it was bought for. Estates run their own parking, so tell us the arrangements and we plan the day around them.

Will the council take an old range cooker before a clean?

Not through the standard bulky collection: the council’s page says range cookers are not taken. Built-in units such as fitted kitchen units go through its separate DIY collection instead. Once the kitchen is clear, a deep clean can deal with the floor and walls behind where the cooker stood.

Do you clean on the Alton estate in Roehampton?

Yes. Roehampton is in SW15 and we cover it like the rest of the borough. Tell us the block and the floor when you book so the team knows how far the kit has to travel.

Send the postcode and the number of bedrooms, and we will ring back to fix a day.
