The W4 postcode spans three councils, from Hounslow’s Chiswick wards into Southfield (Ealing) and Ravenscourt (Hammersmith and Fulham), and a weekly cleaner costs £23 an hour on every side of the lines.
Renting and owning in W4
Chiswick divides almost evenly between owners and renters. Across the three Chiswick wards 50.4% of households own their home, 33.5% rent privately and 15.1% rent socially. Gunnersbury has the most private renters (38.5%) and the most flats (61.3%); Riverside is 58.9% flats and Homefields 51.7%. Overall 57.2% of households live in flats, 22.4% in terraced houses and 16.6% in semis.
Which council you deal with depends on the street. Most of Chiswick is in the London Borough of Hounslow, which has licensed every shared home of three or more people from two or more households since 11 December 2025 (the scheme runs to 10 December 2030). A W4 address in Southfield follows Ealing’s rules for parking, bins and licensing, and one in Ravenscourt follows Hammersmith and Fulham’s.
Bedford Park, Strand on the Green and the High Road
Bedford Park, begun in 1875, is a garden suburb of red brick and tile in the ‘Queen Anne’ style. Every surviving building from the first phase is listed, most of them Grade II, and Hounslow dates the conservation area to 16 April 1970, with an Article 4(2) direction from 24 July 2001. The original design did away with basements and gave the front gardens wooden fences in place of iron railings. The west side of Woodstock Road and the streets beyond it, The Avenue among them, are in Ealing.
On the river, Strand on the Green has Georgian houses and later Victorian and Edwardian terraces. The Thames path floods at spring tides, and before the Thames Barrier the river did reach basements and lower floors, though the council calls property flooding there rare.
Chiswick High Road, a shopping street of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, survives largely as built, with a consistent parapet line. Hounslow publishes appraisals for a dozen Chiswick conservation areas, from Grove Park and Stamford Brook to Turnham Green and Woodlands Grove.
Weekly cleaning, deep cleans and work after the builders
A weekly or fortnightly cleaner comes on the same day each time, and we keep the same cleaner on your home wherever we can. The visit covers the kitchen and bathroom in full, then dusting, beds and floors through the other rooms, landing and stairs included in a house.
A deep clean suits a home that has gone months without a cleaner, or one about to start a weekly rota. Two cleaners or more work through the inside of emptied cupboards, the tops of doors and frames, skirting, radiators, grout and the floor behind what can be moved, with equipment and products they bring.
Building work leaves a fine dust in every room, including the ones the builders never entered. Our after builders cleaning starts at £212 and is booked once the trades have gone. Clear the rubble first: Hounslow will not take waste from home improvements as bulky waste, so it goes to a reuse and recycling centre, where it is charged as industrial waste, or the contractor removes it and stays responsible for disposing of it lawfully.
At the end of a let, the end of tenancy clean has a fixed price from £156. Carpets are cleaned by hot water extraction, priced by the room, and the oven is cleaned by hand in the kitchen and ready for cooking the same evening.
- End of tenancy cleaningfrom £156A fixed price by the size of the home, with a 48-hour re-clean if the inventory clerk marks something we cleaned.
- Deep cleaningfrom £186A team of two or more for a day of the jobs a weekly clean never reaches.

Booking, permits and the stations
Send the form or ring 020 3734 1438. We ring back from 8am to 7pm, seven days a week, to settle the date and confirm the price for the home, and a 50% deposit secures the date, with the rest due after the clean. The cleaners are vetted and trained.
On the Hounslow side, zone hours are on the entry boards and residents order visitor permits on a paper form, each worth 30 one-hour sessions for twenty-eight pounds fifty. Some homes, often new builds, cannot get permits at all. Turnham Green (District and Piccadilly), Gunnersbury (District and Mildmay), Chiswick Park and Stamford Brook (District) and the Chiswick and Kew Bridge rail stations serve the area, and next door Acton and Hammersmith have their own pages.

Chiswick cleaning questions
My house is on the Ealing side of Bedford Park. Does that change anything?
The price is the same. Parking follows Ealing’s Zone B (Bedford Park), controlled Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm, and bins and licensing follow Ealing’s rules. Give us the full postcode and we check which side you are on.
Do you clean riverside houses at Strand on the Green?
Yes. Mention a basement or a garden room when you book: a carpet in a room like that can take longer to dry, because drying depends on ventilation, so we plan the carpet clean early in the day.
Is Chiswick’s water hard?
Hounslow Council names Thames Water as the water utility, and Thames Water says all the water in its region is hard, classing 200 to 300 mg/l as hard and above 300 as very hard. The shower screen and the taps are descaled on every regular visit.
Do you clean listed houses in Bedford Park?
Yes. Every surviving first-phase house there is listed. The cleaners dust original woodwork by hand and leave fixed features where they are; tell us about anything fragile when we ring.
My new-build flat cannot get a parking permit. Is that a problem?
Hounslow says some properties, often new builds, are not eligible for permits. Tell us when we ring and we plan the parking for the day.
Send your W4 postcode and we will ring back with the price and the parking for your street.
