Basements, railings and the river

The borough has 85 conservation areas, each with its own statement, and the council warns that residents in them, or in Article 4 areas, may need planning permission for work that is normally permitted. On the south east side of Richmond Green the houses are brown and red brick townhouses of the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, with front basement areas, railings and entrance steps straight off the pavement; that conservation area dates from 14 January 1969. Richmond Riverside, between Richmond Bridge and Richmond Lock, has Georgian and nineteenth century houses and boathouses set under terraces.

The council notes that parts of the borough are at risk of flooding from the Crane, the Beverley Brook and the Thames. Thames Water supplies the drinking water and says all the water in its region is hard, which is why taps and shower screens are descaled on every visit.

Twickenham has its own page with its parking zones and the stadium event days: cleaning in Twickenham.

Parking a cleaner in Richmond’s zones

Controlled hours vary by zone. Richmond Town (A1) runs Monday to Saturday 8.30am to 6.30pm, and the resident bays on Richmond Green are enforced from 8.30am to midnight every day, while Kew (KA) mostly runs only from 10am to noon on weekdays.

A resident in a zone can buy visitor permits, priced the same as the council’s trader permits: £17.65 for a book of ten scratchcards or £1.80 a pay-as-you-go session in most zones, and about double in Richmond Town (A1) and Richmond Hill (A2). Neither kind works in pay and display bays or car parks, and residents over 60 pay half.

Weekly visits, deep cleans and moving out

A regular cleaner cleans the kitchen and the bathroom on every visit and works through dusting, beds and floors in the other rooms. In a semi or a detached house, where three hours will not reach every room, the bedrooms can go on a rota. We keep the same cleaner on your home wherever we can, and tell you in advance when holidays or illness mean cover.

A deep clean is two or more cleaners for the build-up: grease behind the hob, the tops of doors and wardrobes, skirting and radiators, the inside of the cupboards you empty and the grout. The team brings its own equipment and products; you keep the water and the electricity on.

Owners are the majority here (62.4%), and a quarter of households rent privately (24.7%). When a let ends, the end of tenancy clean is a fixed price by size from £156. For floors, carpet cleaning by hot water extraction starts at £36 a bedroom, with rugs cleaned where they lie, and oven cleaning starts at £77 for a single oven.

Booking a Richmond clean

Ring 020 3734 1438 at any hour or send the form. Calls back go out from 8am to 7pm, every day, to agree the date and confirm the price against your home; a 50% deposit fixes the date and the balance is paid once the work is done. Every cleaner is vetted and trained.

Questions about cleaning in Richmond upon Thames

Are the Richmond Green resident bays enforced in the evening?

Yes, from 8.30am to midnight every day, while the rest of Richmond Town (A1) is controlled Monday to Saturday until 6.30pm. If a clean near the Green runs into the evening or falls on a Sunday, tell us when we ring so the parking is planned.

Will the council collect furniture from my basement flat?

Not from the basement itself. Richmond’s bulky item collection, £85 for up to five items, takes nothing from basements, underground areas or down steps, and its crews will not contact porters or concierges, so put items at the bin shed or the communal collection point first.

Do landlords in Richmond need an HMO licence?

The council’s HMO pages describe a licence for homes with five or more occupiers from two or more households, and planning permission for HMOs of seven or more people. They describe no additional or selective scheme.

Where do I take rubbish before a move?

Townmead Road in Kew is the borough’s main reuse and recycling centre. Residents book a slot; tradespeople need no slot but must hold a valid waste carriers licence, and trade hours are Monday to Friday 8am to 3.30pm.

Do you cover Kew and Teddington?

Yes, and every other part of the borough, from TW1 and TW2 to SW13 and SW14. Kew Gardens station has the District and Mildmay lines, and Teddington is on South Western Railway.

Send the form with your Richmond upon Thames postcode, and we will ring back with the hours and the price.
