A couple with mugs at the breakfast bar of a new-build flat with tall windows onto trees

Nine Elms ward is 98.5 per cent flats, almost all of them in purpose-built blocks, and a regular cleaner for a Battersea flat costs £23 an hour on a weekly rota.

Towers, mansion blocks and Victorian estates

We count six wards as Battersea: Battersea Park, Nine Elms, Shaftesbury and Queenstown, Lavender, Falconbrook and St Mary’s. Across them 82.7 per cent of households live in flats, 65.7 per cent in purpose-built blocks, and only 13.7 per cent in terraced houses. Private renting runs at 38.7 per cent overall and reaches 58.4 per cent in Nine Elms, where the council names Battersea Power Station, Battersea Exchange, New Covent Garden Market, the new United States Embassy and Nine Elms Park as the main regeneration sites. The power station itself is Grade II* listed.

The older stock is just as particular. Late Victorian mansion blocks of about five storeys face Battersea Park, which is a Grade II* registered park and garden. Park Town, planned from 1863 after Queenstown Road was laid out, has long narrow-fronted terraces of two to four storeys, and many are now flats that still look like single houses from the street. Lavender ward, around Lavender Hill, is the conversion district: 43.3 per cent of its households live in a flat inside a converted or shared house, and 46.6 per cent rent privately.

Shaftesbury Park Estate, near Lavender Hill and Clapham Junction, went up between 1873 and 1877 as two-storey London stock brick houses with Gothic detailing, and Peabody manages most of them. An Article 4 direction there means new windows or doors, or paint on the outside walls, need planning permission, so many of the original sashes and front doors survive. If yours are original, say so and the cleaner will take care with the frames and glass.

Battersea cleaning prices

Regular cleaning costs £23 an hour weekly or £24 an hour fortnightly, for at least 3 hours a visit, so a weekly clean starts at £69. Deep cleans are priced by time: £26 for each cleaner-hour and £30 once for the kit, with two cleaners for three hours (the shortest booking) at £186. Any one-off job starts at £67. Moving-out cleans have fixed prices by size, £207 for a one-bed and £243 for two bedrooms, and the rest sits on the full price list. When a one-off clean has nowhere free to park nearby, we add the street parking at what it costs that day, up to £40 at most.

A Battersea flat cleaned week by week

A regular visit follows the same order each time. The kitchen comes first, with the worktops, hob, splashback, sink and the fronts of the units; then the bathroom; then dusting, beds and floors through the rest of the flat, ending at the front door with the bins. In a new-build flat with one bathroom and an open-plan living room that usually fits in three hours. A converted flat on Lavender Hill with stairs inside, or a large mansion flat, can need four.

Hard water is the constant, in new blocks and old ones alike. Limescale on glass shower screens and chrome taps builds quickly, so the cleaner deals with it on every visit, and a deep clean takes back what has gathered over months.

A deep clean adds the inside of cupboards and the fridge, door frames, skirting boards, radiators, window sills and grout, plus the floor behind anything that can be moved; our deep cleaning page sets out the rest. If you have just moved into a newly fitted flat and the trades left dust behind, book an after builders clean at £30 per cleaner-hour plus £32.

Parking by the park and licensing in SW11

Zone B (Battersea Park) controls Prince of Wales Drive and Battersea Park Road seven days a week from 9am to 8pm, at £3.70 an hour with a four-hour limit. A weekend or early evening clean there still needs a paid bay, and a long deep clean may need the car moved once. Lavender Hill (zone C1, Clapham Junction) is controlled Monday to Saturday 8.30am to 6.30pm at £4.30 an hour for two hours at most, while Queenstown Road (zone B3) runs Monday to Friday 9.30am to 5.30pm at £3.70 for up to four hours.

None of the six Battersea wards is in a Wandsworth selective licensing area. Northcote ward, next door, has been in one since 1 April 2026, and the borough-wide additional HMO licence applies to shared lets everywhere, so a landlord letting to sharers in SW11 still needs one. The Wandsworth page covers the borough’s rules in full.

Leaving a rented flat is a fixed-price end of tenancy clean, and if the inventory clerk or agent marks anything we cleaned, tell us within 48 hours and we come back at no charge. Carpets are cleaned by hot water extraction from £36 a bedroom, and ovens by hand in your kitchen from £77, ready for cooking the same evening.

Questions from Battersea and Nine Elms

Do you clean flats in the Nine Elms blocks?

Yes, regular and one-off. Nine Elms ward is 97.6 per cent purpose-built flats, and 58.4 per cent of its households rent privately, against 36.0 per cent in Battersea Park ward. Tell us about the concierge or building access when we ring back so the cleaner gets in on time.

My house is on the Shaftesbury Park Estate. Is there anything to know?

The Article 4 direction covers changes to windows, doors and outside paint, which need planning permission; a clean needs none. Point out any original sashes or a period front door and the cleaner will wipe them by hand.

Is the water as hard in a new flat as in an old one?

Yes, the supply is the same. Most Battersea postcodes are in Thames Water’s Battersea South zone, which averaged 268 mg/l as calcium carbonate in 2025 (264 to 273). Battersea North averaged 258 and the Clapham zone, covering some SW11 addresses near Clapham Junction, 255. All three are hard on Thames Water’s scale.

Where can I get rid of furniture before a clean in SW11?

Wandsworth’s free Mega Skip Days use several SW11 sites, among them Acanthus Road, McDermott Close, Pountney Road, Shuttleworth Road and the Doddington estate. Each resident can bring six items, so clear a spare room that way and book the deep clean for the days after.

Which stations serve Battersea?

The Northern line stops at Battersea Power Station and Nine Elms, both in fare zone 1, and Clapham Junction has Southern, South Western Railway and Overground services.

Tell us the building and the number of bedrooms, and we will ring back with a date.
