A couple with mugs at the breakfast bar of a new-build flat with tall windows onto trees

Romford Market first opened in 1247, and just over half the homes in St Edward’s, the ward that holds it, are flats; weekly cleaning for one is £23 an hour.

The market began by Royal Order as a sheep and cattle market and now trades on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9am to 4.30pm and on Saturdays from 9am to 5pm. Around it, St Edward’s and St Alban’s wards together are 48.0% flats, against 23.0% for Havering as a whole, and 31.6% of their households rent privately, about double the borough rate. Gidea Park and Collier Row, further out, were built as suburbs of houses. The town itself is far bigger than it was: 3,179 people lived here in 1801, the railway came in 1839, and by 1961 the population was 114,584. Four years later Romford merged with Hornchurch to form the London Borough of Havering.

Three hours in a St Edward’s flat

The cleaner starts in the kitchen, where grease and scale build fastest: worktops cleared and wiped, then the hob, the sink and its taps, the oven, fridge and dishwasher doors, the microwave inside and out, and finally the floor. The bathroom comes next, working down from the shower screen and tiles to the basin, toilet and floor. Then the living room and bedrooms: dusting from the shelves down to the skirting, beds made with any linen you leave out, mirrors and glass polished. The vacuum and mop go round last, finishing at the front door.

The taps and shower screen take the longest because of the water. Essex & Suffolk Water’s 2025 reports put its Romford West zone at an average hardness of 280.7 mg/l and Romford East at 246.7 mg/l, both hard, and the scale shows first on chrome and glass. If the flat has a second bathroom, say so when you book, as it adds time to every visit.

A deep clean follows the same order with more in each room: the inside of the fridge, cupboards and oven door, behind and under furniture that moves, skirting boards, door frames, window tracks, grout and the extractor. The team arrives with its own equipment and products, and the water and electricity need to stay on.

Prices in RM1, RM2 and RM7

Weekly cleaning is £23 an hour and fortnightly cleaning £24, with three hours the shortest visit (£69 on the weekly rate). A deep clean costs £26 for each cleaner-hour plus £30 for equipment and detergents, and the smallest booking, a pair of cleaners for three hours, comes to £186. One-off work starts at £67.

Leaving a rented flat is priced by bedrooms: £156 for a studio, £207 for one and £243 for two, up to £425 for four. The full price list has carpets, upholstery and ovens. Where there is no free parking near the home, street parking for a one-off clean is added at the day’s cost and capped at £40.

Parking, licensing and the suburbs around the centre

Romford is the one part of Havering where on-street bays give no 30 free minutes, and the machines take contactless only, with RingGo and PayPoint as the other ways to pay. Visitor permits are not meant for trades here. The cleaner parks on a dispensation from MiPermit instead, which lets the car stay all day on single yellow lines or in resident, business or pay and display bays; it simply cannot hold a space.

Both town-centre wards, St Edward’s and St Alban’s, are inside Havering’s selective licensing area from 18 March 2026 to 17 March 2031, together with Rush Green and Crowlands and Squirrels Heath. Marshalls and Rise Park and Mawneys, to the north and north-west, are outside it. Additional HMO licensing runs over the same dates in every ward, so a shared house of three or four people from two or more households needs a licence wherever it is in Romford.

Outside the centre the housing changes. Gidea Park in RM2 was laid out from 1910 as a garden suburb on the Gidea Hall estate; about 140 houses were up by 1911, most of them detached and many in Tudor styles chosen through an architects’ competition. Collier Row in RM5 stayed rural until 80 acres were released for building in 1929, plans for about 1,500 houses were approved in 1937 alone, and council estates followed after the war. A Tudor-style detached house and a one-bed flat in St Edward’s need very different hours, so tell us the bedrooms and floors when you book. The rest of the borough is on the Havering page.

Bridge Close and moving out

Beside Romford station, inside the ring road, the council-led Bridge Close scheme would put up to 1,070 homes on a dated industrial site, with a primary school, health services and a revitalised River Rom crossed by a new bridge. Newly built flats get an after builders clean before the first move-in, at £30 per cleaner-hour plus £32, from £212.

Tenants leaving a flat book the end of tenancy clean for Havering at a fixed price by size. If something we cleaned is marked by the inventory clerk or agent, let us know within 48 hours and a cleaner comes back to put it right at no charge. Hot water extraction is the method for carpets, priced per room through carpet cleaning from £36 a bedroom, and a single oven is £77 through oven cleaning, cleaned by hand in your kitchen and usable the same evening. In a block with communal bins, batteries, small electricals and textiles cannot be left out for collection, so sort those before moving day.

Ring 020 3734 1438 at any time, or send the form. We call you back to fix the date and check the price against the home; a 50% deposit books the slot, and the balance falls due when the clean is done. The cleaners, all vetted and trained, work from 8am to 7pm every day of the week.

Romford, before you book

Which Romford water zone am I in?

Essex & Suffolk Water’s zone reports do not list postcodes, so we cannot say street by street. Both zones are hard: Romford West ranged from 266.2 to 289.5 mg/l in 2025 and Romford East from 216.9 to 277.1. Either way the cleaner treats the taps, the shower glass and the kettle for scale.

Do you clean the older houses in Gidea Park?

Yes. Gidea Park’s first houses date from 1910 and 1911 and are mostly detached, so a regular visit there usually needs more than the three-hour minimum. If a house has original woodwork or fittings you want handled gently, say so on the form.

Can the cleaner come on a market day?

Yes. We clean seven days a week from 8am to 7pm, and Wednesday, Friday and Saturday are no different. If you live by the Market Place and would rather avoid the stalls, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday work just as well.

Can I book an oven clean without a full clean?

Yes. A single oven is £77, a double £110 and a 90cm range £143. Racks, trays and shelf supports go into a soak, and the cleaner works on the cavity, the glass and the door seals by hand; the inner door glass comes out only where the door is built to come apart, and a window left open for a while clears any smell.

Give us your Romford postcode and the size of the home, and we ring back with the price.
