A woman on a window seat in a mansion block flat with tall sash windows

Red-brick mansion blocks around Elgin Avenue and stucco crescents nearer the canals make up much of Maida Vale, where a weekly cleaner costs £23 an hour for a three-hour visit.

Canals, stucco crescents and red brick

The Grand Union and Regent’s canals shaped the first streets here. Up to the 1860s Maida Vale was built in brick and stucco, with imposing stucco crescents; after that came red stock brick and the early mansion blocks around Elgin Avenue, and Warwick Avenue and Maida Vale stations opened in 1915. Westminster describes a leafy area of tree-lined streets and large private gardens, with Paddington Recreation Ground to the north and Little Venice to the south.

Inside those buildings, almost everyone lives in a flat. In the Maida Vale and Little Venice Census areas, 91.0% of households were in flats in 2021: 54.8% in purpose-built blocks and 34.4% in converted or shared houses, with 5.7% in terraced houses. Private renting accounts for 47.4% of households, owners for 37.1% and social renting for 15.1%.

With a third of households in flats inside older houses, the way in varies from one address to the next: a shared front door, a communal stair, sometimes no lift. Tell us the floor and the entrance when you book, and the cleaner arrives knowing what to expect.

What a Maida Vale clean costs

Regular cleaning is £23 per hour for weekly visits and £24 per hour for fortnightly ones, with three hours as the minimum, so £69 buys a weekly visit. Deep cleaning is £26 per cleaner-hour, plus £30 for the equipment and detergents, and the minimum (two cleaners, three hours) totals £186. A studio tenancy clean is £156 and a three-bed £339; nothing one-off goes below £67. The price list has the rest.

Should a one-off clean have no free parking within reach, we add the bay at the price charged on the day, up to £40 and no further. Maida Vale and Little Venice lie north-west of Marylebone Road, the northern edge of the Congestion Charge zone, so they are outside it.

Parking zones, licensing and the market in W9

Most of Maida Vale is in parking zone C, sub-zone C1, while the Warwick Avenue and Little Venice streets fall in BC1 and B4, part of zone B, going by a council zone map that is old enough to check against the street signs. In all of them the paid bays, single yellow lines and resident bays are controlled from 08:30 to 18:30, Monday to Friday only. The exception is the Kilburn Park Road area of zone C, where resident bays run from 08:00 to 18:30 Monday to Saturday. A daily trade permit costs £21.60 in zone C, the lowest of Westminster’s seven zones, and £38.10 in zone B.

Maida Vale, Little Venice and Harrow Road wards are all in selective licensing Designation 1, which runs from 24 November 2025 to 23 November 2030, and the additional HMO scheme applies on top for homes shared by three or more people from two or more households. The Westminster page has the city-wide picture.

Maida Hill Market, nearby in W9, trades on Fridays and Saturdays from 8am to 6pm and has been rebuilt with pedestrian-priority areas, seating and planting. Next door, St John’s Wood and Kilburn each have their own page.

The regular visit and the deep clean

Each regular visit covers the same ground. In the kitchen: the worktops, hob, sink, splashback and the outside of the appliances, then the floor. In the bathroom: bath or shower, basin, toilet, tiles and mirror, with the taps and glass descaled, because Thames Water calls all the water it supplies hard. Elsewhere: dusting of every reachable surface, beds made with fresh linen if you leave it out, and the floors hoovered and washed.

A deep clean is longer and wider. Two or more cleaners do the kitchen units inside and out (shelves, drawers, the fridge), wipe down doors, frames and skirting, clean radiators and light fittings within reach, and scrub the grout. It is the right first visit for a flat that has gone a while without one. Book it through deep cleaning; weekly and fortnightly rotas are on domestic cleaning.

For moving, carpets and ovens the Westminster pages apply. An end of tenancy clean is the only service with a return visit: report anything the clerk or agent marks within 48 hours and we come back at no cost. Carpets are washed by hot water extraction and usually dry within a few hours, and an oven is cleaned in your kitchen, with the inner door glass taken apart only where the door is built to allow it.

Booking a clean in Maida Vale or Little Venice

Fill in the form or call 020 3734 1438, any time of day. We phone back, agree the date and confirm what the clean costs for your flat. A 50% deposit books it, and the second half is paid when the cleaner is done. We clean from 8am to 7pm, Monday to Sunday.

Maida Vale cleaning questions

Is parking for the cleaner cheaper in Maida Vale?

Usually. Zone C, which covers most of Maida Vale, has the lowest trade permit price in Westminster at £21.60 a day, and its controls apply on weekdays only. The Warwick Avenue and Little Venice end is in zone B, where the permit is £38.10.

Can you clean on a Saturday?

Yes, we work seven days from 8am to 7pm. On a Saturday the bays in zone C and in BC1 and B4 are not controlled, except the resident bays around Kilburn Park Road, which are controlled Monday to Saturday.

Do you cover Little Venice?

Yes. Little Venice is part of the area on this page, and the Census figures above include its Census area. Warwick Avenue, which Westminster calls a gateway to Little Venice, has its Underground station in Zone 2 on the Bakerloo line.

My flat is the top floor of a converted house. Will that take longer?

A little, mostly because of the stairs. Just over a third of Maida Vale households live in converted or shared houses, and we agree the hours with you on the phone so the visit fits the flat.

Do Maida Vale landlords need a selective licence?

Most privately rented homes do. The Maida Vale, Little Venice and Harrow Road wards are all in Designation 1, from 24 November 2025 to 23 November 2030, and the additional HMO scheme covers shared homes.

Say which street and how many bedrooms, and we will call back with a price for the clean in Maida Vale.
